LG make very cheap multi format DVD writers that play Ram disks

TMPGenc 3.0 Xpress will convert files from the panasonic recorders to dvd files for copying to DVD-R

Thanks for that info. I can't remember where, but somewhere it seemed to say that certain writers can't read the files off the Panny -RAM discs.

Spooky... the exact ones I bought, and from the same store too - £17 a spindle. That'll teach me to save money, eh

I exchanged them for some Verbatim 16x DVD-R, and 4x DVD-RW instead and have had no problems since.

Hi Abdul,

Do you have any problems playing finalized discs in players other than the DMR-ES10?

Currys' Web Exclusive price for the DMRES20D is currently £154.95 for a Region 2 machine.

If you go into a Currys store they'll usually match the web-price too. That's a great price, same as I paid for my R2 ES10 a few months ago.

I managed to get one of these for £104 (not Multi-Region) just before Christmas. Dixons on Fargate Sheffield closing down and offered an extra 20% off.

No, I've had no further problems!

I tried both the Verbatim 16x DVD-R and 4x DVD-RW in my Playstation 2, and they both worked fine after finalising.

(My PS2 is the last of the chunky ones, model number SCPH-50003, which has better DVD playback support than earlier PS2s)

thanks for the info on the verbatum discs. i got a cyberhome dvdr for xmas from asda and cant get it to finalise any discs correctly. looking at my alternative (cheap) options this panasonic model appears well reviewed. have you tried your finalised disc in any dvd players other than your ps2

I never thought of trying the DMR-ES10 finalized discs in my daughter's PS2!!!

Thanks for the idea. Will check this out.

It'll help pin down whether it is the Sony being 'picky' or whether the Panny has done something 'wierd' when finalizing the discs!

Cheers

Yes, I finalised one each of the Verbatim 16x DVD-Rs and the 4x DVD-RWs, and they played back successfully in my Philips DVP524 player.

Now, what's interesting is that the Philips DVP524 makes no mention at all of DVD-R support (only DVD+R and DVD+RW, for licensing purposes I guess) but it didn't have any problems reading the discs once they'd been finalised.

That explains what happened to all the decent kit!

I went in there just after Christmas, and there wasn't much left for sale except batteries and inkjet cartridges
