If Jade were a bloke?
There are a lot of "bleeding hearts" for jade.
My question: if she had been a bloke with those same attributes ... loud mouthed, foul and agressive, baby talk, racist comments including use of the **** word, dyes her hair, shaves her body hair, strips off at the drop of a hat, pissed half the time .... ... would anyone here be excusing him all his crimes on the basis that he had had a hard upbringing, he had been goaded ito doing it by the others, it was all his parents fault? Would anyone bee feeling guilty for having wanted him evicted to a hail of boos? I suspect not. Sexism takes many forms and this type of double standard shows it at its worst. The assumption is that the female is always the victim: that is patent crap . Everyone, male or female, should take responsibility for thier own actions. Jade should be no exception. Alice So would anyone be warming to a blubby bloke? |

Alice - what's the matter????
![]() This is a VERY good point you have raised. We have all to some degree fallen for Jades 'little girl' act. If she had been male he/she wouldn't have lasted this far. What does this tell us about OUR attitude to men and women?? MGOM

PJ's "laddist" face is just as much a product of the stereotyping as Jade's vulnerable blubbing. It is the way it is: it don't make it right. Alice PS: i want a woman to win BB I don't want a woman to be given BB just because she dyes her hair blonde!!!! |

This is quite an interesting topic.
It seems to me that on if you are a woman you have to seem weak and childish (and stupid) to get the public to warm to you on Big Brother - see Helen and Jade. If you seem strong minded and independent (and even of average intelligence) you are immediately labelled a bitch - see Elisabeth, Amma, Adele, and Lynne. The only notable exception to this I can think of is Anna (and maybe because she was a lesbian she wasn't being judged in quite the same way). What does this say about what we want women to be in our society. As a woman, I find it quite scarey. |

I want a woman to win becasue she has earned it not (as some threads have suggested) because the first two shows were won by men. The "blonde" reference was really targetted at the "helen" stereotype demanded by C4. |

BC hates working night shifts as unable to sleep in the day for long |

I disagree with this. Jade is actually very tough - she has had to be to get on to BB and survive. With regard to various of hte other women:
Alison - I agree - she should 've stayed and there was some racism/sexism going on there Adele - got kicked for being two-faced Lynne - was very unpleasant Amma/Elizabeth - pleasanr, but not enough about them Anna - very strong, nearly won. I still don't have any evidence that Jade used the work "Paki". Remember she is mixed-race and her mother is a disabled lesbian, so she would not be such a bad role model in many ways IMO. |

If Jade was a man, then she'd be 'one of the lads' for having done a sex act, she'd wouldnt have nearly as many insults aimed at her for her looks or weight.
she would stay in bed whilst someone ELSL tidied up in the morning. |

I dont know about anyone else but for me the most cringe making moment in BB3 so far was when she was chattin to Alex in the bedroom totally in 'baby voice' mode wanting to play 'follow the van', I felt quite sick.

I thought that was just plain WEIRD, considering Jade is not overly fond of Alex. Alex wasn't jumping over himself to oblige, thank goodness!! |

Of course you can make individual points about why each woman was evicted but the pattern remains. Childish women (and men) are allowed to get away with stuff that other women don't.
Everyone in there has been two faced - it's the nature of the game. Jade has been far more two faced than Adele (and downright nasty - see personal comments about Sophie and Kate) so why did Adele get the blame? If Amma and Elisabeth were pleasant why were they so loathed at the time? |

Hello Alice,
That's a very interesting thread you have started and I think you are right and as others have said it is a pretty sad indictment of the way women are seen. I hoped we had made more progress in the last umpty years. Another example of this is Katye being blamed for 'letting' Jade strip because of the perceived 'sisterhood angle. I feel we should be beyond that and suspect that in some ways it is just another way of keeping women seperate from 'planet male'. We are responsible (or not) as people, not as men or women. Oh, by the way I don't think they should have been responsible for Jade UNLESS the rest of them had been sober. Mavis who is not a rampant feminist |

Me too. Just another example of this creature trying to inveigle her way back into the group in the same way as she thought her tragic strip would at least favourably dipose the "lads" to her. I’m afraid I wouldn’t have shown Alex’s restraint by fobbing the ugly troll off with lies. |

ok lets just say this was a lad would you make fun of her looks in the same way ''pig face'' for example if she was a bloke or if a bloke acted that way know. .Know she is judged mostly on her looks if she looked like kate she'd not get nearly as much abuse.

As I’ve said a million times if her personality wasn’t so accurately reflected by her looks then they would pass without much comment. Blaming her porcine features for the degree to which she‘s hated is facile. She’s hated because she’s hateful. |

rubbish the papers have jumpeed on her from early on plainly because of her looks. Just as most of you have. Same with alison it was becasuse she was oveweight that she was jumped on so early ''for eating like a pig'', itsa society's obsession with looks.

Exactly to the point: she acts like a pig all the time (talking, eating etc) - it is unfortunate for her really that her face fitted the miss piggy mould. If she had been a really calm considerate person I'l bet she would not have ended up styled "werepig". Back to the thread though: it's not her looks because the blokes HAVE been targeted on the basis of thier appearance. It is trying to understand why turning on the tears and having a rough background appears to be excusing jade of all her crimes in the house yet the same would not (IMO) be allowed of a man. Women are NOT children. The way Jade is being treated is insulting to other women who want to get on in life as people. |

Jade deserves our sympathy and Jonny deserves a lifetime as a minor minor exBB3 celeb in his home patch. IMHO of course ![]() MGOM |

If Jade were a man... he'd look damned odd with those enormous tits.
But I digress. I think if we want to talk about gender-based double standards, you only have to look towards the PJ eviction the other night. The evidence shows clearly that PJ was an ABOMINABLE CAD of the highest order, yet all he got was a couple of laddish "Whey Heys" from the crowd. Adele and Sophie (who also, it must be said, were treated appalingly by another Cad, Lee) and who, by way of contrast, did nothing more terrible than simple gossiping, were treated to some truely disgusting treatment by what I hesitate to dignify by calling a mob. If Adele's booing is the stadard by which crimes in the BB house are judged, then clearly PJ should have been ritually dis-embowled. Fair's fair. Yes, I used to have some sympathy for Jade, but since the media has reported that she was a notorious bully in school (suspended several times) I have lost any positive feelings for her. Ritual disembowlling for bullies is also something I have no problem getting behind. |

Mat devaraux
I agree with you completly. Jade was set up by the tabloids almost from day 1, because of her looks and she talked a lot.(what a crime!) some say her looks reflect her true character, what a loud of tosh..(yeah..I know other people are entitled to their opinions but so am I and I think some comments about Jade are a load of tosh..MY opinion!). These people wouldnt dream of making fun of say Mike Tysons skin colour and use the excuse that 'well he has a black personality, so its fair to do that'. (at least I hope they wouldnt). |
