Jade has a lost brother (Daily Star I think) and is going to Jail for non-payment of Council Tax (Today's Sun)

But I still don't see why she's going to jail for council tax. Doesn't she live at home with her mum? In which case, surely her mum is responsible for the Council Tax?
Still confused (but that's not unusual)

Where has he gone? Lost at birth due to adoption or just disappeared?

If she has been in the BB House for the past 8 weeks does she get her sentence reduced for time already served?

Apparently Jade owes money to the council and will have to pay the fees too, faces jail. It's on Sky News website now but it did start in the Sun.

"Big Brother's Jade Goody could face jail when she leaves the TV house after falling to pay council tax.

The 21-year-old dental nurse owes more than £363 dating back two years, the Sun says.

She has been sent a warning letter from London's Southwark Council.

And, Jade will also be liable for costs incurred by the council who have been chasing the debt for two years."

I just wondered if this will snowball over the next few weeks and in turn create a situation where people vote for Jade to win, simply because they feel sorry for her and feel she needs the money to pay her tax.

She does live with her mum...beacause she was evicted from her flat with rent arrears. She also owes British Gas quite a bit.

as i have been employed as a council tax advisor in my recent past (i'm not proud), I can confirm that only 1 person in England and Wales has ever gone to jail because of Ctax evasion.

The reason why her arrears are only £300 are due to the tax payer subsidies that the Goody household enjoy.

She's not going to jail

Hee Hee, know what you mean but don't worry, my Grandmother always said that the time to worry was when bishops started looking 12 years old.

But if she was the sole person in her flat, earning what she does, the only subsidy would be single persons allowance surely?

This only takes about £100 off my CT.
Is CT really that cheap in some parts of London?

Single person discount is only 25% and does anywhere in London have council tax of approx £270 per year? I didn’t think so. Sloppy reporting on the part of the Sun or someone has their sums wrong and she owes more than that.

Let’s hope she could be the 2nd person ever to go to jail for non-payment

Er...perhaps she paid some of it and not the rest? There was a time when the Borough of Wandsworth didn't charge any CT at all.

If you re-read the article Mavis you’ll see it says she hasn’t paid ANY council tax between Feb 2000 and Dec 2001. I used to live in Wandsworth until 1999 and never had a freebie year. Sure you’re not thinking of the poll tax days?

I don't feel sorry for Jade, I am sure the council would arrest her wages or even go to her house and take items to sell, I think the sun have went ott. (I have worked for Sheriff officers) Anyway Jade can't be that hard up she, was on holiday in the last year in Dominican Republic, don't think that would be cheap.? ?

Good point Mavis! I am sure there are many people who owe much more in council tax arrears, my mate for one! I would stop paying it myself if I could get away with it . I pay an horrendous amount each year because I chose to live 'in the city'. More fool me

Bloody hell people, if it is true and she has not paid taxes due, then she should go to jail and pay the price, and not be handed £70K !!!!! GET REAL.
