I'm appalled at this thead and many of the comments within it. Have none of you ever had any adversity in your lives ? I'm not saying that people who do end up in financial difficulties aren't to blame, to some extent, for these difficulties, but none of us are immune from disaster. Being pious and damning about people who, for whatever reasons, usually unknown, have ended up in debt is just so judgemental and harsh.
I have worked as an advisor to people who find themselves homeless and in appalling circumstances, and often my clients have been the victim of a string of devastating coincidences. The toll on families in terms of stress, depression and dreadful ill health is immense. Not all people who are in debt, and/or are in receipt of benefits are freeloading scum bags !
Has no one else taking part in this thread ever owed any money for anything? Do none of you have credit agreements for cars, furniture etc ? What if you sudennly became ill, found that your payment protection insurance didn't cover your particular circumstances? If you had no one else to turn to for help, how could you stop it spiralling out of control and ending up in the gutter, along with your family, and being called a freeloading tax avoiding scum bag to top it all off ?
I feel astonished at the lack of understanding in many of the posts in this thread. The reasons for people ending up in debt are too complex to be able to just condemn it without a second thought, plus most of the vital information needed to even begin to understand !
I think this forum as a whole is a fantastic one, being for the most part intelligent, entertaining and mature. Please can we have a little more compassion with regard to Jade and her family background and financial circumstances ?
