I think that Tim's 'un'popularity has less to do with his interactions with the housemates... ...and much more to do with the way he is with 'us'.

Tim seems genuinly puzzled about the 'get Tim out' chants at last night's eviction......he talked with alex about how he was with everyone and how he keeps himself to himself....and doesn't really bother much with the HM's he doesn't like......

...I think it has more to do with the little 'diary room' chats he has with 'us'.............like Adele and Alex in particular, Tim uses the diaryroom to 'talk' to the nation........but the way he comes across to me is like he's doing a 'party political broadcast' and speaks as though A) he assumes we all AGREE with what he says about the other HM's (whether we do or not isn't the point I'm making)..and when he's talking about himself it's like he's a slimey politician....like he thinks the sun shines out of his own backside...........and if we don't agree we're brainless idiots......that's my main reason for not liking him.............the first HM I dislike as a person, rather than disliking their behaviour.....

I think a lot of it is inverted snobbery from self styled class warriors. He's an arrogant sort, but often speaks some sense. If Jonny came out with the same stuff then I'm sure many here would say he's quite correct (or joking). The vitriol is out of all proportion to his actions.

Now about Jade...

I think there is a very real difference between someone like Tim and someone like Adele. Adele was so open about playing a game so she was disliked. Tim is being himself, but he comes across as not having a likable personality, which is why he is disliked. I don't think it has anything to do with inverted snobery, he's just not a very nice person. Look at someone like Alex, he seems to have had a very good life, all that travelling he did as a kid, and with his job he's probably done a lot of things to boast about - things that someone like Tim would use to make them appear superior. Alex comes across as a likeable chap - a bit weird - but still likable.
Is it worse therefore to dislike someone who openly obscured who they were like Adele, or dislike someone who is just being themselves however odius they are like Tim? You decide.

I think the main reason we don't like TIm is 'cos he likes himself so much...

But who is the real Tim? If you saw his video like all us viewer did you'd disliked him from the start. If he had just gone in cold it would have taken us a while to wise up to him as he is not as bad as the bloke on that video! I thought that bloke in the video had just come off The Edwardian Country House or something!

He's just conceited and always tries to come across as not wanting to be in the house. So why bother to enter in the first place?

The other housemates have been in the house far longer than he has, and maybe his perception of other playing to the cameras is wrong. They have to deal with the boredom in some way, mucking about is probably one way to get around it.

If he wants to sit in a corner to cope and whine, he should just do that at home.

I happen to be the kind of person who admires people for what they do, rather than what their parents do or how much money they have..........he speaks very little sense IMO he lives in cloud cuckoo land...........................he's arrogant, ignorant......his manners are bad.....do you ever hear him say thank you.....he sits about all day looking as though he's surrounded by a bad smell............and the way he is in the diary room is what takes the biscuit for me.............that air of 'Oh I'm not like these HM's, I'm a really nice guy and these things aren't....' ...........*ppppppffffffftht!!!!!....is what i say to that............no wonder his girl dumped him and he appears to have best mates who talk to the press.......hmmmmm...a really nice guy....NOT!.........

I agree with what you and the others here are saying about his personality traits.

I'd add to that by thinking that maybe he also portrays a stereotype which many people don't like.

I do think that SOME people would have an inverted snobbery about him.

I do think he's going to have problems. I think Jade is a stronger character, and it looked for a while as though she was the one most likely to suffer post_BB3.

I think Tim messed up early on. He quickly decided whose side he was on, and quickly started slagging off others who he had hardly spoken to. Then the racist jokes came out. Also his inability to make an attempt to join in any lighthearted stuff.
I dont think its inverted snobbery. If he was a 'nice guy' id have no problem with him.

Yeah, that's the problem, he's got a lot of work to do in convincing the viewers that he's an okay guy, right from the start.

That's the problem with stereotypes, it's just too easy to form opinions on people if they fit into a template.

Like scorp, I've met people who could be desribed as toff's and have found them to be nicer people than I consider myself to be.

I suppose Tim fits into the stereotype of "The upper class twit of the year", from the Monty Python sketch, but a bit nastier.

I think so too, ......he came in later than Sophie, and while he wasn't allowed to talk to others about what he knew from the first couple of weeks of BB3 he certainly could use the information he took with him to the house regarding popular public opinion.....he knew the public was warming to Alex...he 'thought' the public thought Kate was the house 'slag' (although imo that public opinion quickly waned in the face of Adele and her snidey ways, which he wouldn't have known about because of his period of isolation).....

........and that's why imo the little tete-a-tete's he has with 'us' in the diary room have massively backfired...he truly isn't aware of public opinion...or he wasn't till last night!...now that he is, he's lost his bottle, hence the talk with alex about 'walking'.............with me, as with you, his social status isn't an issue.....but his character is......he seems to be the one with 'satus' issies, along with race, disability etc...........the little conversation last week about homeless people told me volumes about the HM's characters...Alex, "I've paid my taxes, let the governement sort out the scroungers" Tim agreeing though admitting to throwing the odd £1 coin (after Jonny said he helped them in case the viewer thought Tim was too mean) and Jonny "you have to realise that there are many reasons why people are homeless, like abuse in the family and mental illness"..............didn't Alison once mention that she'd brought a homeless person home for xmas dinner.?.....

.........things like that tell me volumes about a person's true character........

I can follow you train of thought, Alrightmate (hey! aren't we agreeing a lot lately! *grin*)......but there's the other thing.....I don't see Tim as 'upperclass'.....I see him as 'middle class, aspiring to be upper'....if that makes sense....'upper class' people imo don't have the obsession that Tim has with boasting about wealth or what things cost or all that stuff.....he seems to 'want' people to see him as 'upper class' but his conversation and character belies his middle class background...............in my experience the 'middle classes' get 'looked down on' by both 'upper' and 'working' class people, .....LOL.....this is bringing up images of the 'two Ronnies' class sketch more than Monty Python's upper class twit..........................
