An Experiment in Reverse?

Having just re-read The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, there is a section when they are in Maghrafelt where they learn that the mice are the true custodians and rulers of the Earth and that the humans were part of the great question of life, the universe and everything, despite us humans thinking we were in charge. The mice ran around mazes and things just to give the impression that man was marvelling at it's ingenuity.

Could the same not be true of Big Brother?... Instead of us watching how housemates react to being put in a situation together, they are "aliens" who have been chosen for this task just to gauge the reaction of the less dominant species on this planet. They are not the experiment... the people of this island are the experiment. I look forward to seeing the results in the future...

although it is an appealing prospect to pretend we’re not of the same species as Jade....

Jade is after all.....from another planet.

I hoped that this thread would not turn into a slag Jade off thread... but that would make it unique in this forum.

Channel 4 have done a marvellous job in making you lot think it's about watching the HMs when it's actually a big psychological survey of several million Britons.

I thought I would make a satirical comment about BB... No need to make comments like that about my thread.

Welcome back Tony. Good to see you are still keeping up with the quality posting.

When I look at Jade the word alien does cross the mind.

Nice idea, however there's a slight flaw in your theory.

They haven't got a f**king clue about the outside world.

Who, the housemates or the forum members??

If it's the housemates, how do we know they don't know what's going on outside... If it's an experiment on us, they'll be doing their utmost not to make us realise that.

You mean the psychologists may be relaying information to them?

Who knows... Could we all be part of a massive Truman Show. They wouldn't tell us if we were.

My warped sense of humour does lead to threads sometimes dying, but it was worth a try...

And who knows, I might be right.

Yep... sounds OK to me...

Wasn't enough slagging off of Jade to warrant it staying in BB

The hitchhikers thing with the mice is a good anology in some respects.
because as well as BB being about the public judging the contestants, to some degree it also test US the public/media as to what kind of people WE are.

and looking at some the the current public/media attitudes towards BB contestants I think we failed the task..

I think this is a great post - GG made me laugh and other posters have made me think. I also consider the voting of the housemates by the public as an indicator of what values society holds high today. That is why I really don't want Johnny to win as that will really depress me. If Alex wins I will feel that society is much better than I thought.

Most of all I would like to see the mass hysteria against certain HMs created by the media stop as that is really depressing. At least the forum cheers me up again, as there are differing opinions here and some really funny and intelligent ones. So there is hope for society yet!

I could buy Alex as an alien - and perhaps Sandy - and, now I come to think of it, Adele.
