If you have not already done so you should download xten http://www.sipgate.co.uk/faq/index.p...ces&rubrik=560 from the link on this page.
It works quite well but you are tied to the PC. If you buy one of their Netgear routers you get 555mins (to landlines free) and you get excellet quality. Not to mention the ability to use 'normal' phones! Hope this helps!

There is also the SNOM softphone and Firefly (3rd party version) softphone you can use amongst a few others.
You may wish to link a USA number to your Sipgate service, this is again free, via: http://phone.ipkall.com/ipphone |

They cost them money you see, so they don't want to have 50 numbers available for areas where they get only a few registrations. |

Try selecting another area, for example 0121 Birmingham, get to the section where it lists the number, highlight it, then go back to the front page and select sign up again, this time choosing the area you require.
As the numbers cost Sipgate, there are certain area codes they limit, therefore when one person selects that number, it is taken out of the system for awhile, to allow that person to register it, if they then decide they don't want to register it, it takes a short while for that number to be put back into the system. it is to stop people selecting one number, then going back and trying again for a better number. |

Right. I have just tried to get a Barnsley 01226 number, and have indeed being presented with a Barnsley 01226 number, not a bad one either.
I believe your problem could well the fact that Bulldog along with AOL, don't use UK range of IP addresses, so Sipgate believes you are outside the UK. You will either need to use another ISP to sign up with or go via a UK proxy server. |

That's got to be it the reason, I just thought there may have been problems still with Bulldog using non-UK IP ranges, that seems like it has been sorted as you have said you used Bulldog to sign up with.
However now you are trying to sign up whilst connected via AOL, and there is the problem - AOL, you therefore do need to go via a proxy or another ISP (just for the sign up). There is a list of proxy servers at: http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html, you will need to find a UK one, and depending on your browser will need to enter the details somwhere! |
