This Morning just showed clips of both Emmerdales and EastEnders gay kisses next week. Both soaps look like they are going to do the issues very well with the people playing Ivan and Naomi both outstanding in the clips they showed.

I was pleasantly suprised at the scene between Ivan and Paul.

Sigh.......... I can't believe soaps are still using that to drum up publicity.

I find the soaps sometimes portray that having a gay or bi relationship are still not accepted in our society however I would say that they can be helpful for people who are perhaps confused

Well not everyone in soaps has to be straight.
It's not publicity it's a storyline.

I just can't wait until the day where gay relationships are not indifferent in our society & I'm hetro - however the soaps have to portray real life & I guess thats what they are doing

I agree! I wish that one soap would actually have a gay couple that are just a gay couple. In this day an age, to use a gay story line and sensationalise it, still has an air of 'oooh look at those gay people', when in actual fact in urban areas (I know in small towns and villages it is still a bit shocking) gay people are not that uncommon.

If a soap showed a 'normal' gay couple in a relationship just getting on with life, then maybe it would be come more acceptable in those areas where people aren't exposed to it as much and a lot of prejudice will be broken down.

Even Sean in Corrie, although he has had flirtation with potential partners, still isn't in a stable realtionship. Are Corrie scared to show a Gay man having a sex life? He is also a stereotypical gay man and perpetuates the gay image of being a screeming queen. Don't get me wrong, I think Sean is a great character and there are gay men out there like him, but there are also Gay men who aren't. Just look at the winner of 'Playing it Straight'. A builder from Essex, who would have guessed????

I know it seems crazy to say, but a lot of society is influenced by soaps (the year that Michelle Fowler decided against abortion in EE the number of abortions across the country went down) so if gay relationships were represented along with straight relationships, I think a lot of people would become more accepting.

(Just realised this is a really long post, Sorry)

It was just a well acted scene particularly from the actor who plays Ivan - and there was more than one kiss as well. Very nice.

Just watched the clip on line and it's only a peck on the cheek. Hardly a 'Gay' kiss.

Has there actually been a proper gay snog on a soap the way that they show straight people.

It seems to be me that Lesbians can have a full on tongue sarnie but men have to settle with a small peck or a blink and your'll miss kiss (Todd and Nick on Corrie, but even that wasn't a proper Gay kiss as Nick isn't gay)

Todd and Karl in Corrie?

Does anyone who saw the clip on This Morning know from which episode it was?

That's from tonight's episode - I presume the one they played on This Morning was from NEXT week, or Sunday.

You can see tonight's peck by going here and clicking Media Centre on the left. But they should update with next week's clips soon, so it won't be there for long.

Yes, there was. What you describe was how the first episode ended, with Sarah and Katy in the cab and Todd and Karl seen through the front window in the distance.

The second episode (It was monday) began with them getting out the cab, paying for it ... and you saw Todd and Karl kissing. Didn't last long, sadly, but was clearly seen and a definite snog! It only ended abruptly because Todd heard Sarah's voice, so he pushes Karl away.

So what WAS in the This Morning clip? The peck on the cheek as see in TV mags or something different?

I remember just before they showed did the Todd and Karl kiss in Corrie the producer said it was 2004 so they were treating Todd kissing Karl no differently to Todd kissing Sarah ..

Which was a lie, of course, cos you saw Todd and Sarah (and any male and Female) kissing all the time but they only ever dared show one kiss between Todd and Karl. They even cut one out that was filmed but not shown!

And it's strange how kisses between females in soaps barely get any comment but between men it's positively shocking, and complaints follow! I can only think the people who complain are men and the sight of two women kissing just turns them on!

I agree, and it's funny how if you ask any overtly straight man if watches a soap he'll usually deny it. Apart from that, you might get the old Mary WHitehouse brigade who'll complain about anything even if they haven't seen it.

More gay kisses the better, we're party of society, don't ignore us.

The two guys was a kiss on the lips - quite gentle, not a full on snog.

*ahem* forgotten about the "Gay Boy" kiss have we Flukie? We saw them kiss twice- one full on snog (over two episodes) and one gentle lingering kiss, which was completely unexpected and surprised us all! Well, until we downloaded the ITV update a few hours early anyway Still annoyed about the Door Pinning kiss being cut though

I don't watch Emmerdale but I'm interested to see how they deal with the Naomi/Sonia kiss in EE this week. Although I fear that it'll be like the ridiculous Zoe/Kelly kiss, which was just done for pure sensationalism. Hopefully not, but it does worry me that Natalie Cassidy said that they just "went for it"- that sounds like Sonia snogs Naomi back, and I'm not sure she would do that. I know her and Martin are having problems but that doesn't mean she's going to start going around reciprocating gay kisses lol! EE has been really good recently though and so I'm sure they'll do it well. They got so much criticism about the Zoe/Kelly kiss that I'm sure they won't want to make the same mistake twice

I think both of them (Son and Naomi) are under the influence of alchohol so maybe Sonia is letting down her barriers and wants to try something new. I read that after the kiss and she has realised what she has done she goes running back to Martin.
