Bill may not be the greatest dancer overall but is that what you are really looking for? Zoë is undoubtedly the best dancer, technically, but judging by the amount of anti-Zoë posts, she's certainly not the most popular.
If you'll forgive me I'd like to point out that most of you seem to be voting for the 'sexiest male' rather than the best dancer - and what's wrong with that? Vote with your heart.....it's only for fun really!”
Very true.
As you say, it is never going to be a pure dance competition &, as with anything in which the public is asked to vote, popularity, appearance &, yes, who we find the most attractive will enter into the equation. Otherwise it's be a case of just letting the judges decide the results each week, thus returning to the "Come Dancing" format & killing off a lot of the public interest in the show.
I don't think Bill will win the series, but he has shown that he is capable of picking up the basics of each dance; unlike me who has to think too much about what my hands, feet, etc. should be doing & ends up losing the whole plot. Karen has produced some very entertaining, storyline, choreography & they do, both, come across as being genuinely likeable people.
As to why Bill is still in the show, I think there is an element of the nice guy who is, obviously putting every effort into it, being knocked by the judges each week. It's similar, but in reverse to the apparent backlash against Zoe. I've liked Zoe Ball since the days when she was a childrens TV link person & believe that, like her dad, she brings something special to everything she does, but I do get annoyed with the way that the judges are ignoring the mistakes she makes; face it none of the couples are going to be absolutely perfect, even when she points them out. Rather than encouraging the public to vote for her this seems to be having the opposite effect, which is just as unfair to her as the encouragement of any sympathy vote, for any of the other couples would be.
Sorry for digressing into a bit of a rant there.
