I'm sorry, is it just me or what the hell is Bill Turnbull still doing on SCD? He is crap and should have been chucked out long ago. This sympathy voting's got to stop!

Hi Liza, I' not sure it's as simple as just sympathy voting, and that 'he's crap'. I'm sure there may be some people sympathy voting, but on the whole I think that a lot of people are very entertained by Bill and are drawn to his self-effacing personality. I'm not a 'Bill and Karen' fan, though I do enjoy seeing them, and I can understand that there are people who are genuinely impressed with the amount of skill he has - admittedly the other celebs are arguably so good that it makes Bill look worse than he actually is.

The programme is a dancing contest, but it is also a celebrity popularity and entertainment show (that's why it has celebs in it, and is not just Come Dancing again) - people vote all week so Bill and Karen's routines, the way they come across during the week, the effort that he puts, his sense of humour, perhaps Bill's popularity with BBC Breakfast news viewers, his taking part in Children in Need... these are all things that add up to him being in still. Obviously one could argue that his ongoing injury and 'underdog' status are also helping but they aren't the only aspects to it.

The show is positive and we don't vote people out; we vote for our favourites and hope that is enough.

I think there are a lot of people who probably agree that they'd rather Bill went instead of another couple, but we all feel like that because we are worried for the couples that we like ourselves. It's perhaps a bit better to be more positive than negative in these respects and instead talk about why our couple should still be in rather than why someone should leave - but that's just me, I'm too soft

Good to see you on the boards - happy posting!

IT was wrong he survived last week, but that is the problem you get when the 'daft' public are allowed to vote too much.

However when you consider who had left before, there is no doubt that this series those dancers knocked have deserved to go.

No need for am anti Bill rant just yet.

However I do think that Bill needs to come up with a very good performance this week and show progress each week to deserve continued entry.

Bill is on a yellow card is an rather inapt metaphor.

Bill has certainly overstayed his welcome. How on earth can people find him entertaining is beyond belief! The only description I have of him is he's unnecessarily arrogant ( the fact the he can't dance yet he argues with the judges as if he's Fred Astaire) & no personality!

He must go tonight!

C'mon everyone.....lighten-up!

SCD is not strictly about dancing, it never has been! It's about entertainment and raising money for charity and the fact that Bill & Karen have hundreds of posts about them on here prove that they are entertaining.

Bill may not be the greatest dancer overall but is that what you are really looking for? Zoë is undoubtedly the best dancer, technically, but judging by the amount of anti-Zoë posts, she's certainly not the most popular.

If you'll forgive me I'd like to point out that most of you seem to be voting for the 'sexiest male' rather than the best dancer - and what's wrong with that? Vote with your heart.....it's only for fun really!

Agree completely. Talent shows are always about so much more than talent....rightly or wrongly, depending on how seriously you take them. In this particular case, as long as plenty of dosh goes to charity, does it really matter whether the cream or the 'dregs' (sorry to call you a dreg, Bill) rise to the top?

Very true.

As you say, it is never going to be a pure dance competition &, as with anything in which the public is asked to vote, popularity, appearance &, yes, who we find the most attractive will enter into the equation. Otherwise it's be a case of just letting the judges decide the results each week, thus returning to the "Come Dancing" format & killing off a lot of the public interest in the show.

I don't think Bill will win the series, but he has shown that he is capable of picking up the basics of each dance; unlike me who has to think too much about what my hands, feet, etc. should be doing & ends up losing the whole plot. Karen has produced some very entertaining, storyline, choreography & they do, both, come across as being genuinely likeable people.

As to why Bill is still in the show, I think there is an element of the nice guy who is, obviously putting every effort into it, being knocked by the judges each week. It's similar, but in reverse to the apparent backlash against Zoe. I've liked Zoe Ball since the days when she was a childrens TV link person & believe that, like her dad, she brings something special to everything she does, but I do get annoyed with the way that the judges are ignoring the mistakes she makes; face it none of the couples are going to be absolutely perfect, even when she points them out. Rather than encouraging the public to vote for her this seems to be having the opposite effect, which is just as unfair to her as the encouragement of any sympathy vote, for any of the other couples would be.

Sorry for digressing into a bit of a rant there.

I think, in a way, Kenny has a point. Bill is probably the worst dancer left. (Sorry Bill fans ) I don't think that automatically means he should leave though. The public will vote for favourites no matter how shite their dancing!!
Look at the yummy James Martin. His jive was desperado... and the hunky chef is still gracing our Scrictly Screens each week (phew!!)

As for the choreography... I'm not a fan. I adore Karen and think she's a spectacular person and all that.. but the 'christman panto' element she brings to some of the dances is nauseating (sorry!). I don't think it suits Bill, who's not the most naturally 'out-there' kinda guy. She matches the steps to his ability and then ads a load of soap-opera that tends not to come across well on the night. The exception to that was the tango - a.k.a Skirt-gate. I thought the ring bit at the end was really sweet. Am probably just a saddo though!!

Folk forget that this isn't just a competition for the BEST dancer, it's also a competition for the most improved or not as the case may be. Today Patsy & Anton are in the bottom 2, no doubt people will vote for them because they like Patsy or Anton. The same happens with Bill and karen. Wouldn't it be boring if it was all Zoes and Ians? Nobody is asking you to vote to keep Bill and karen in, so if you can't say something possitive don't say anything at all.
