I am having problems since I re-joined them on my transfererd number from o2.

In a certain area of the town, I get "it's not been possible to connect your call please try again later" even though I have 5 bars out of 5 signal quality.

I'm also having a really bad problem with texts. It's pot luck if people recieve them when I send them, and when I do send them I get delivery reports coming through 3/4 hours later saying message received. People are sending texts to me which are disappearing, on different neworks. I have friends on orange, who live in the same area as me, and they are having no problems at all.

Now, I am starting to get rather angry, they and sending me from pillar to post, "it might be this","it's o2","it's 3" I don't care who it is, get it sorted in 24 hours or I'll ring up and get my PAC number!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought o2 was going to be a nightmare, but to my suprise, they were good, no delayed texts, no missed calls, and then I move to orange who have been superb over the years, and I get nothing but a crap service!

it's not been possible to connect your call please try again later - this is a message that you hear when you call an o2 phone with no voicemail set up i.e. their phone is switched off

How long has it been since you ported? I've seen a lot of people have stability problems in the first couple of weeks after a port-in finished that settle themselves down without intervention.
As the previous poster siad, the not possible message is usually an o2 engaged/phone offf message. Tellyour friends to switch their voicemail on

I've found their Customer Services to be very helpful, I couldn't receive any incoming calls after porting and I rang up and he told me to enter a code into my phone and it worked fine!

450 from your Orange phone or 07973100450 from any other phone (Option 2 problems making and receiving calls).

People get the message when they ring me lol. Even though I have "welcome to orange answerphone".

It's been 2 weeks since I ported.

Does this problem occur EVERY time you are in the same location, or is it happening in different areas all the time?

Okay so I think we've at least narrowed the problem down, if people are hearing the o2 lady when they call your number it's definitely a porting problem.
If it's been 2 weeks then there's a possibility it's still settling but I very much doubt it. I would call customer services and get them to log a fault with it. It'll help them if you can get a rough idea of what areas it happened in (3 postcodes if possible) and at what times and also what network the people calling you are on and what phones.
A lot of information I know but the more info you give to Tech Support, the quicker they're able to track down the problem and get it fixed.

02 are a good service to a point but even they have played up a few times this year. It's not been possible to connect your call please try again later. That can also be heard if you call Vodafone and the persons got a weak signal at the other end at the time or if the Vodafone you are calling got a low battery. Thats why I dont like Vodafone much. I always thought Orange to be one of the better networks. Anyway every network usally one way or another will start to play up in the next few weeks as we get to the Christmas and New year. You would think networks would try and sort this out from happening as they know it happens almost every year at christmas and worse at the New Year.

In my experience the only problem is half an hour either side of midnight on New Years Eve when everybody tries to call their friends/family. I wouldn't say its a major problem and its unusual that the networks will receive this much traffic at any other time of the year so there is little point in upgrading their capacity when it won't be used.

I only seem to get the o2 lady when I have no signal, even though I should get orange answer phone which I do get when I have signal.

It happens in different towns and cities, and back home,it is the same. Inbound texts sometimes disappearing, outbound texts turn up 2/3 hours late, some don't even turn up.

I rang Orange TS yesterday (5pm), and the lady said I will send your phone a sim update just to refresh the sim card.
I'm still waiting for it now.

I have never had a sim update, even though you should receive one when you port your number over. They are doing a 12 hour diagnostics test so hopefully they will ring me at 5 and tell me whats up.

With SIM updates, they have to go to the SIM memory and not the phone so it's a good idea to check you don't have any text messages stored on your phone. I had a new SIM a few days ago with an upgrade and forgot about this and the sim updates didn't come through until I moved all my messages onto the phone, even then it was about ten hours later.

Well I rang them at 5pm today, and told them that I had not recieved any of the sim updates sent yesterday. When the lady went into my diagnostic details I got a sim update.

So I did the normal procedure, turned the phone back on, I was asked to send a text to myself, I did and it didn't turn up. She then sent the sim updates, told me to turn my phone off, then 45 mins later turn it on, and delete the messages and turn off, back on and she would ring in 15 mins.

Well, I received nothing, not my text, not the sim updates, so now it's been passed to tech support who usually take 3-5 days to reply. If TS can't sort it, I will go back to o2.

I'm glad Orange have decent CS,because if I was on 3, I would be doomed.

I'm still waiting for a sim update from Orange too. Bought my phone this morning.

Its a 3G handset and i've contacted Orange CS they say that the sim has been activated. Whilst I was on the phone to CS the handset managed to get service for about 30 seconds then it lost it.

This evening it has had service for a few seconds too. I can't figure out if I have a dodgy USIM or if this is the norm on Orange 3G.

I've just switched the phone off and will be switching it back on in half an hour to see if that works. Any advise anyone?

Switched my phone back on. Still no service. Looks like Orange might be taking the full quoted 24hrs.

Even though according to there system my sim is active. Anyone get the feeling this whole 3G thing is a complete joke?

Voicemail is evil and only designed to make networks even more money.

If I call someone and they have voicemail, I make sure I never call them again on their mobile. Why the hell should I be charged because a phone is engaged, switched off or in a no signal area, when for no cost I can be told it is switched off, engaged or no reception. That way I can choose to call back later or send a text.

I never have my voicemail switched on and nor do nearly all my friends and family, the ones that do have it switched on, I only ever text.

It's bloody annoying to get the flipping voicemail, when their phone has only jumped out of service for a second or two.

Number porting can be a nightmare.

Something I'm not sure on from this is whether you can receive calls when you have a signal?

The voicemail, missing texts, etc all points to the fact that O2 aren't forwarding your number correctly. You have ported your number to Orange, but everyone else in the world still uses O2 as the reference point first - O2 then re-route your calls/SMS back out to Orange.

I wouldn't be too quick to go back to O2 because from what you've said so far it looks like it's entirely their fault that you can't reliably receive calls or texts. It might be worth a call to the O2 customer services team against your old account number and point out their responsibilities with number portability (there are some Ofcom regulations to do with this but I don't know the specific ones ).

Not all networks allow you to turn the voicemail off and some people may like having it on.

I agree with this, as IMO it sounds like the number is still sitting on the O2 system, which explains the O2 lady coming on the line instead of Orange's one...

Is this a new connection or an upgrade? As when I upgraded to 6630, they said it could take up to 24 hours, told me to leave my phone off for 12 hours then switch it on and the sim updates would all come through then. In fact it only took about 4 hours for the old sim to go dead and the new one to fire up... Although I've heard of it taking longer on new connections I have to admit

Its a new connection, and its still not on. I've decided to call it a day and take it back to the shop and get a standard 2.5g.

My first brush with 3G and what a flop. Is it any wonder that this whole UMTS fiasco has been such a bleeder for the networks.

I must say that there is alot of praise for Orange CS on this forum. Although they are still good in comparison to some of the other networks, I still think they are a shadow of what they used to be. Particluarly at the weekends.

I think that Virgin and Tesco are now the standard to beat.

Well, personal choice You'll still have to wait for sim updates to activate your sim on 2.5G though... Orange aren't doing that bad with 3G though IMO - they used to take 3 days to activate new 3G accounts

Re Orange CS - actually I have to agree. They're ok, but if this is what they were like when they used to win all these awards... sheesh.

Personally, the network that's given me best service by far over time was T-Mobile. Just a shame they got really expensive for a while... otherwise I'd still be there.

I just don't want the hassle, after this problem i'm not sure what might be around the corner. I think i'll give it a few more years for the technology to find its feet.

I remember one2one CS they were shocking. I've not tried T-mobile directly, mailnly beacuse i have problems with coverage where I live. (I was willing to accept coverage issues on one2one because of price and shed loads of free calls )
