Anyone can hold any opinion they want about any couple and they're are quite welcome to express it. It doesnt bother me in the slightest if someone posts negatively about my faves - that's their opinion, it's up to them. I'm not going to let it worry me.

I think what none of us what is posts that are basically abusive about the couples or forum members. Why reduce this to playground name calling?

I wouldn't say this has become a 'love-in' at all. Yes we have a giggle and enjoy the show, but there's no prerequiste to like everyone if you wish to post here. We just don't want to cross that fine line between stating why you dislike someone and having a kiddy tantrum being utterly rude calling everyone who votes for them stupid.

Debate, not argument.

Again, Happyfeet, you have come up trumps with some sensible suggestions. The Health Service is going to be fine with doctors like you in it.

I have been (briefly) on boards for other series and have run away in horror at some of the hostility of the postings in them. I think that this board is generally pretty good, but we just need to do a bit of fine tuning to make sure that we get through the emotive Saturday night unscathed.

We are all so into the show now that whoever goes out is going to upset lots of people - we have got to know the couples more and the prospect of not seeing them next week will be very disappointing. I guess we just need to anticipate how people will be feeling and post accordingly.

Thanks again
Shappy

I think sometimes the stuff said about the judges gets a bit out of hand as well - especially the stuff I've read about Arlene. On the whole I'm not really bothered by what anyone writes, unless someone actually says my opionion is rubbish in which case I would respond, but is it ok to direct people's anger at the judges? They too are only doing a job and have probably been encouraged to be vocal in their praise/criticism of couples to keep viewing figures up. I think people should be able to express their annoyances, but not get too personal about anyone, not even judges.

Yes Shappy, personal insults are never really ok.
It's almost 'GO' time
Good luck everyone.

The forum is still in excellent shape

The whole place seems to have disintegrated into a gigantic 'love-in' by a clique intent on telling everyone else how to behave.

You are not wrong

I disagree Seymour, there isn't a clique here. Everyone that posts, from my point of view is welcomed. Cliques are by nature: groups that exclude others, and the people on here couldn't be further from that. As for the 'love-in' we're having - nothing wrong with a bit of a love-in every now and then, the world is a nasty enough place as it is

I like this place and love to post in it but to tell you the truth I know what the others mean if anyone posts against particularly anton they jump all over them and when new posters innocently start a duplicate thread people start criticising were it should be just left to the mods to merge and give the newbies a bit of leeway until they know their way around
happyfeet
26-11-2005
I'll bear that in mind bendy, I think I am guilty of the 'please check for other threads first' thing, and will endeavour to chill out a bit. On the whole though, and I can only speak for myself - I haven't seen much evidence of people jumping on other people for criticisng... what I have seen is when people perhaps criticise Anton, or whoever, the fans come out and say that they love their couple anyway, as opposed to telling off the other person for daring to speak out of turn.

If people are jumping over someone for fair criticism, then that's wrong... and am sorry about that.

Hello First time I've dared raise my head above the parapet to post on this forum ... To be totally honest, I have been put off posting by some of the totally extreme ranting - yes people have their favourites but to think they are supreme above all others and no-one else has any merits is just plain ridiculous.

I'm possibly a bit of an oddity ( in many ways hehe) but I don't have a clear favourite, which is probably why I find the extreme partiality of some quite odd - I like different aspects of each of the partnerships - sometimes its merely "awww bless look at him/her she/he is trying so hard" but that to me is what its about - seeing how different people from outside the dancing world can progress in such a limited time. I totally take my (metaphorical) hat off to all of them.

And now having had a little witter, I have forgotten the point I was going to make - but believe me, it was an excellent one which would have had you all nodding sagely saying "now that is one profound post" .... but now you'll never know
happyfeet

hehehe - thanks bendymixer, I appreciate having someone-in-the know around

Welcome ImaPlum Nice wittering - me like. I totally agree, that's what I'm like - I love them all and it does mean that every day I'm going to be sad someone has to leave. I post here because I love the whole concept of the programme and all the parts of it. I post on lots of the 'I love Anton', 'I love James' etc etc threads because it's fun to have a laugh about it.

I'm glad you stuck your head above the parapet, it's always great to get a fresh opinion Where have you seen the extreme ranting - that's very tres dismaying...

I think I exaggerated with my "totally extreme ranting" phrase if I am forced to be honest (how tedious! hehe) - what I should have said was when someone maybe gets voted out I find comments like "I hate so and so they should have been the ones to go, they're useless and ugly blah blah blah..... etc.." thats the sort of comment that I find just silly and has put me off posting here, because that generally leads to just bickering type posts which I just can't be bothered to then read let alone participate in. Now it could be all tongue in cheek and I am missing the point totally, but some of it does seem a bit OTT - but my "extreme ranting" comment was OTT at all .... so I am now envisioning glass houses and stones

Ohhhh I see, yes you're right - every weekend it get's like that (hence my use of the term 'weekend backlash') If you pop byt the forum in the middle of the week when it calms down you'll find a very different place. Don't judge it by the weekend I can tell you're going make a lot of us laugh - there's lots of rambling self-deprecators
ImaPlum
26-11-2005
oh that made me giggle - I'm a rambling self-deprecator - I knew there was a term to describe me.

TY for your comments happyfeet and I will take your advice about visiting mid-week when things have calmed down, although thats not to say that I might not make the odd little comment in between times if I can't help myself.

Heehee, another good time generally is after 11pm - just a tip

yes the witching hours is always fun what with the spicy custard and the waistcoated elephants and there's usually an otter or 2 running around the place

All has been relatively peaceful on here tonight. The usual people who dislike a particular couple or dancer whatever they do have been around and about, but mostly people have been pretty good.

As I've said before opinions = good, abuse = bad

And don't worry about it pipie...I know I would have been devasted if it had been the other way round. Don't expect you to go out and vote for Patsy but the apology was most big of you. I salute you sir/madam!
ImaPlum

... and I thought this was a classy joint - i would expect no less than an elephant in dinner suit with coloured cummerbund to match his partner's eyes

... is that how one spells cummerbund? i have no idea
pipie

claire2281 its Madame (i should really get a more female name shouldn't i **ponders) anyway crashing on....

Tiny (the elephant) doesn't have tails because he made brendan stitch all the pretty sequins on his waist coat duh, and have u ever seen an elephant in tails, that would just be silly!
ImaPlum

I was thinking the elephant might be a trend setter - but the elephant i see is just a sheep
