I have a Panasonic DMR-E500 and an LG GSA 4120B CD/DVD/DVD-RAM reader/writer on my PC.
I have a problem with TV-programs recorded by DMR when transfering them to PC on DVD-RAM.

1. TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 recognizes only titles recorded directly to DVD-RAM. It handles titles copied from HDD as "copy protected" and these copy protected titles do not appear either in the choice.

2. Ulead Movie Factory4 recognizes only DVD-RAM structure (how many titles it has), but in case I want to access any title - not depending wether they are copied from HDD or recorded directly - program and PC hangs totally, the only solution is power off/on.

Do you have any idea how to solve this problem or can you advise another tool?

I have a DMR-E95H, so hopefully this will help. I have never seen any copy protected messages.

I'm not sure if this counts. I do know though that files editted on the hard drive and then copied to DVD-RAM are very crudley editted. They literally have the deleted section wiped and the two parts either side spliced together. This causes problems as the file will then have time code errors.

I have been using Womble Video Wizard to open / edit files before i import them into any DVD-Video writing program i wish to use.

Someone else recommended using Videoredo to edit and DVDlab to burn files to dvd.

I know the Womble editors are affected by files editted on my panasonic machine, I have found a way around this but it is a bit long winded.

Thanks for your answer. You are right, this was the problem really. The DVD author handles non-edited items copied from HDD to DVD-RAM.

A Movie Factory hangs still when accessing DVD-RAM written by Panasonic, even if there are no pre-edited items on it.
But this is an another problem.

I did not catch what tool/method you mentioned which could help me to copy the tremendous quantity of already pre-edited stuff to the PC.

I only found my solution to the editting problem last week. I think I have found a second method but I am yet to test it fully.

I'll describe it in the form of an example.

I've recorded a program to the hdd, it has 3 advert breaks in it. I would then edit out the adverts.

I copy the program to a DVD-Ram disc and then open the video on my pc in Womble Video Wizard.

This would allow me to read the video fine up until the first edit. I would then mark that section out for saving, and export to my pc hdd. Then I would insert the DVD-Ram back in the recorder and erase the section I had just saved.

Then reload the dvd-ram back in the pc and carry out the same again and create a second part......

I would carry this on until I end up with 4 parts on my pc hard drive to load into my writing software.

The final part I would just copy off the ram disc.

I think you can do the same quickly using the divide title function before editting the video on the panasonic recorder. I would copy each section individually to my pc. You must make sure no frames of the video are present from an earlier part when you carry out an edit.

The best way to ensure this is if you are editting the rubbish before the section you want. Is to press "rewind" when the partial erase menu comes up until "the pause icon" appears, this ensures you are at the very beginning of the video, then you can select it as the start of section to edit and and then you can select the end edit point as normal.
