Right, having had a chance of some fodder, I can finally finish what I started earlier.
Individual dances:
Bill & Karen: Definitely one of, if not their best performance. Fine, the choreography might have been a bit cheesy for some, but I thought it was a bit like something from the old 1930's musicals, with Fred & Ginger. Even Arlene couldn't find that much to criticise him over. I think they got their best ever marks, didn't they?
Patsy & Anton: Pity about her dress, but I do feel that latin just isn't her strong point; & to be honest Anton does tend to struggle with it. Shame really as I can see, from the training footage just what a struggle he's had rebuilding her confidence after last week's debacle (more t¬he way the result panned out than their performance) & he is so wonderful to watch when doing the ballroom dances. Didn't really think the pink suited either of them; but I'm not a big fan of pink on anyone.
Zoe & Ian: Sorry, but I didn't like this routine. I didn't find the choreography all that great &, as others have said, the gaping space between them ws big enough to drive a tank through, never mind a bus (Len was meant to be watching out specially for this). The marks were something of a travesty, two 10's? Are Bruno & Arlene watching the same couple we are? For once I actually found myself agreeing with Craig for giving one of the lower marks. Sorry, but, much as I have always liked Zoe, the unfairness of this blatant overmarking is unfair to the other contestants &, as I've said before, could actually prove to be counter-productive for Zoe.
Colin & Erin: Didn't like the edited training footage/comments. Their performance was very good, on a par with the best V. waltzes we've seen this series. Erin is certainly very elegant in the ballroom dances &, as two fairly tall people, her & Collin look as good as Zoe & Ian, as a couple. Deserved an equal first place tonight.
Darren & Lilia: As per my earlier post, I loved their foxtrot. Big lad, but seems to float around the floor. Didn't notice anything wrong with his hands or posture & full marks to Craig for complimenting Lilia on her choreography. As ever, gave eh appearance of genuinely enjoying the dancing. I agree with them coming equal to Colin & Erin, but believe both these couples gave better performances than Zoe & Ian this week.
James & Camilla: Delightfully graceful waltz. Choice of music was very good. After the disaster he had last week, it was great to see him back to his top form.
As I've remarked earlier, the shots of the group Argentine tango were appalling. Surely they have enough cameras set up that we could have seen all the couples dancing, both in their individual spots and as part of the group; how can we decide on their overall perfromance of the group dance if we can't see it? Come on Auntie, try & sort this out for next week, please!
The results show:
Usual comments from the judges; i.e. certain couples most impressed them but others gave the best performances. Sorry, but I've never figured out that part.
The pro dance was wonderful to watch. Genuine Fred & Ginger moment, but with 2 lovely couples.
I can take or leave "The Pussycat Dolls", but it was nice to see Matthew & Izabela dancing to the song.
As for the result itself. Well, I thinit was almost ineveitible that we'd have Biil & Karen & Patsy & Anton as the bottom two couples. The strain showed on both couples' faces as they waited for the announcement & I think Anton looked more relieved than Patsy at the outcome.
I will really miss Bill. Fine, he may not have been the best dancer but he gave hope to all of us two-left-footers by achieving as much as he did. They did provide entertainment, both on & off the dancefloor; he actually managed to put Arlene in her place by being nice to her.
Their actual exit showed just what a gentleman he is. To be honest, I think Karen bursting into tears had more to do with the wonderful things he had to say about her than the fact that they had to leave the series.
I guess that's one of the big problems with the series having reached this point. Those couples that are left are, generally, those whom the public have warmed to the most &, even though we all have our favourites, there can't but be a twinge of sadness at any of them having to leave. It's a real shame that they can't all be declared equal winners, but that's not the nature of the show.
