Sorry, that's about as seriously as I can take this thread.
But to answer the original thought: this lot do seem rather un-worldly.

FJ - that's actually the point I meant I think when I started this thread...it's almost as if they've lived they're 20+ years disconnected from the world around them or somehow failed to recall a single thing they may have come across in that time. I'm sure there are some scales on which the housemates would do well and I wouldn't so I hope I didn't sound too superior in the initial post - I was trying to be self depricating and yet still point out that "even I knew that" sort of thing.

Maybe the reason they know nothing about the world at all is that they're really all robots built just for the show?...

I'm constantly amazed at the ignorance displayed by the HMs: I'm crap at "general knowledge" type questions: always lose Trival Pursuit type games, crap at pub quizzes etc, but even I can't get over HM density. People slag off Jade, but the others don't seem that much better to me. I read something about Jonny and plastic/BBQ: what was that about? Him being a fireman and not understanding that plastic melts?? I hope not: very scary.

It's almost like they were chosen because of their lack of mental prowess.
I have to admit the robot theory would explain alot that I'm having difficulty explaining...

Is it unreasonable to expect housemates (or any random person off the street) to know common sense things like this? Is it also unreasonable to expect people to know even a little about the geography of the country they live in?

However, it was pointed out in a programme about Jade's demonstration of ignorance on this subject that in a vox pops in some town with people Jade's age almost none new where East Anglia is on a map of the UK, and lots of other striking omissions....the theory put forward on the programme was that if you asked the same age group "which and where are the best clubs in Ibiza" they'd not only take you straight there, but they'd know the doormans name and would know who to talk to get a good deal...

...it was all about social distance rather than geographic distance as the criteria to judge peoples knowlege of places, and for Londoners, Ibiza is socially much closer than Birmingham....or even East Anglia.

What do you mean

In the face of would-be corruption, LK declares her innocence of any buzzes, except Mr LightYear ones

Just checking back on any threads for replies I may have missed, and I'm glad this light-hearted silly post will be my last reply.

Have fun everyone, see you all here again for celeb BB and then next year?

Ulaanbaatar, if you're really interested. Just don't ask...

On the subject though, Adele seemed like quite an intelligent one. And Alex, while not exactly the brightest, was extremely well informed. He told Jade about the political situation in Sierra Leone and wasn't stupid when it came to geography either. There's a massive difference between intelligence and general knowledge though...

Funny you should mention that - I found that rather odd. Tim and P.J. seemed a lot more informed.

Unfortunately common sense these days isn't that common.

After Saturday nights task and Alex got the question wrong about who would have Ancient Egypt as their specialist subject on Mastermind. He obviously got the question wrong as no-one in the house had mentioned it at all.

Alext to Jonny: I didn't know you were into Ancient Egypt

Jonny: I'm not, but I'd go and learn about it.

So Jonny you're so stupid that you if you had to go on a quiz show, you'd choose a subject you know NOTHING about! Genius - pure genius!!
That was one of Jonny's funnier moments for me!

Perhaps he's off now to swot up on the subject for his next TV challenge - is Mastermind still on air??
