I think that the difference between Craig and Len is that one marks positively, based on the things he likes, and ones marks negatively, looking for errors. Len is a professional judge and with a ballroom and latin background, unlike the others, is looking for things that would be looked for in competition, rather more technical details of footwork etc. Craigs expertise is in drama and choreography, not ballroom and latin, and therefore he is bound to be looking for different things, like drama and the overall look. This is not really a problem if they are consistent. My main problem, actually,, is with Bruno, who, although cute, gets carried away, and awards 10s where they are not merited from the performance. At least Len does not do this, and reserves the full mark for a performance that might merit it!

This is a really interesting thread given that there has been so much controversy about the judging. Can I ask, how does Arlene operate? She seems to be the most outspoken and the least consistent.

No idea how Arlene is thinking this time round. She seems to get an obsession with something and then harps on about it. She also, like Bruno, seems biased in favour of certain celebrities.

Craig judges honestly, consitently and well. Above all he has the good manners not to interrupt when other judges are giving their views - unlike Len I regret to say.

At least the judges give opinions and marks according to their professional crtiteria. Telephone votes depend on many other (and often frivolous) factors. I personally feel this is a weakness of the show to those of us who want to see good dancing and improvement in the celebrities and have no 'favourites' based on cooking, acting, athletic, cricketing or whatever other skills.

'It doesn't help that Bruce Forsyth (sell-by date: 1978)'

As recently as that?

I used to think that. But after watching CRH on ITT it's clear he knows his onions to coin a phrase, when it comes to ballroom AND latin. If I may be indulged for a moment...I think the fact that CRH is so knowledgeable clearly grates on Len Goodman. He always says he is "nitpicking" but he never says he is wrong. On ITT last week Len had to admit that he missed the lift that Anton did on Patsy that got her back on the right foot, which is a big no no apparently when they did their Foxtrot. I bet had CRH pointed that out on the nite then Len would probably say it doesn't matter

I think CRH fully realises that the celebs aren't professionals but he does look for improvement which I think some like Will achieved and even to a lesser degree James.

Agree with a lot of what you say diamondlife. What I am at a loss to understand is how they all ignore the gaping space between Zoe and Ian and can give their dances a 10.. In ballroom (speaking as a teacher and judge myself) that is one of the biggest faults. I just cannot understand how all four have consistently ignored this, even when it is pointed out to them on Itt.

Craig has become my favourite judge this series. Being on ITT seems to have given people a better insight into his judging and what he's looking for. Like other people have said, he gives the contestants constructive criticism and helps them to improve. I really wish the audience would stop automatically booing him, and that Bruce would shut up for once, so that he could speak without us having to strain our ears to hear him! He seems to be a really nice guy off the judging panel where he has for some reason been given the role of Mr Nasty since the 1st series. At least now more people respect him and value his judging.

If my memory serves CRH did pick up on the gap in training but didn't mention it on the nite. He picked up instead on Zoe's Charleston being ahead of Ian's. Even with that controversy I STILL rate him as he scored Zoe and Ian and Colin and Erin exactly the same for their Foxtrot Len it seems hands out 9's like Smarties and Bruno while I like his humour most of the time is surely joking if he thinks Zoe and Ian's Quickstep merited a 10

I have to agree 100% with this quote. Craig is a first rate judge and I have been impressed by him from show 1.
