Lacy posted the assertion in this thread that Alex is resentful of Jonny over his interest in Kate.
I suspect instead that Alex has come to hold a generic resentment of BOTH men & women he views as [virile] competition; derived from feelings of inadequate masculinity. That rather than achieve a sense of adequacy through working to evolve more masculine aspects within his persona, he tries to reject his societally-acquired definition of masculinity altogether. It's doubtful, though, that Alex has truly redefined masculinity for himself - as betrayed by his notably primal physical impositions on the female housemates. It's simply less threatening & less effort [for him] to deny a perceived unmanliness than accept that there may be [some] truth to it.
There's little of the direct challenge - aggressive or nonaggressive - that men in particular are perceived to make over specific issues, in the manner Alex competes. He rarely seems to directly confront the wishes/opinions/behaviour of an opponent he views as strong, but attempts to defeat them through blackening of character & standing.
Consider that Alex has found degrees of fault in virtually all the housemates - bar Sandy (neutered by virtue of age/girlfriend/disinterest in winning BB3) and Tim & Adele (neutered through flattery/compliance with Alex's views/lack of status & sexual challenge). Moreover consider the unique [among the BB HMs now] way in which Alex expresses criticism of such faults: it's covert, petty, cattish, sniping - hardly "manly". There's a [resentment-fuelled] concealed aggression in the readiness to express, and continuing repetition & maintenance of said criticisms.
Earlier in the series, Alex (unknowingly, obviously) had my support & sympathy in winning BB3; as he appeared to be gentle, sensitive, congenial, well-mannered - and was belittled by many of the housemates for being so. He seemed genuinely brave for an HM, to the point of self-sacrifice; as exemplified in risking mass nomination by his housemeeting in "Weegate". His quips were quick, informed & amusing.
Yet, over the weeks, his sense of humour has been revealed to be absent when he's the object of another's wit. Where's the gentleness & sensivity in his derision of the clearly incapable Jade? Where's the congeniality in him harbouring grudges rather than resolving issues, or accepting defeat over them & moving on (eg with Jonny, again over "Weegate"). Where's the bravery now to risk being up for eviction - by voicing an opinion in support of a friend - through his refusal to publically nominate a fellow housemate (even Tim), to simply receive a telephone call from a loved one?
So where's my vote ...... with someone else!

MMMMMMMMMMMMHHHH! Werrrry Innnteresting!!!!
sorry, i'm honestly not extracting the 'wee-[gate]', i just kinda felt i ought to be on a couch as ai read this (i've had enough psych-therapy to know)
i agree with most/nearly all of your points and have been arguing, on this forum, for weeks that the term 'alpha-male' (as keeps being applied to alex) must have been redifined, drastically, since i touched psych in 1st year. soooo glad i didn't make that my undergrad!!!!! - watching the bb ones in action on sundays makes me want to speak to a few old profs just to confirm i'm not deluded.
i have yet to understand those who claim that they support alex due to his being funny (it must be important to distiquish between laughing with and laughing at).
i am resisting going on 'rant-mode' about my particular faults with alex - your post is particularly eloquent and forms the sum total of many of my posted comments as regards to him.
should there be further come-back, as undoubtedly there will - particularly in the run up to 27/07, then i will expand on this post.
Deerd
remembering, form just yesterday, tim (of all people) whispering 'master tactician' in relation to alex. mmmmmhhhmm!!!????? take or leave as you will!!!!
