I'm very disappointed that Jill won't be on the Special, she was my favourite dancer of all the series by a long way. But I won't take The Sun's version of events as gospel.

Brendan was in Cinderella last year and he had it written into his contract that he would not be appearing on December 20th - a that was the night of SDC christmas special. Maybe she had signed up for the panto before they asked her.

Did Brendan say that? How do you know what was in his contract?

I don't think the tabloids have learnt about the difference between 'can't' and 'won't'. In tabloid language these two words actually mean the same thing.

If Rachel Hunter is on her game (and there's no reason to believe she won't...she has some great natural talent) then that is a very distinct possibility....

Zoe and Darren are bound to be in the final and Zoe is as good (if not better) certainly in the Ballroom Dances than Jill was. Perhaps she's afraid of a little competition!!!!!

It's a real pity, as Jill is certainly one of the best dancers among the celebrities we've ever had in SCD. But if it is going to jeopardize her career by being on the Christmas Special, then I can't blame her
But I really do wish that she is going to be on it.

I agree about Ballroom not being Jill's strongest point, but then again, she can more than make up for it in Latin!

Children In Need may be getting a percentage of the phone call costs, but you can't seriously imagine that these people are giving up all this time and putting in all this effort AND giving the BBC a prime time Saturday hit without being paid. Let me assure you that they are being paid, and handsomely too.


Not entirely true. Sometimes performers have other commitments that require them to take time off and miss a show or two. Certainly, to rehearse for SCD as well as performing in a Panto would be an incredibly punishing schedule. That's more likely to be the real reason. As to the understudy only going on due to the illness of the lead, well I remember an understudy going on because the lead took a week off the show to get married!

Basically Darren B confirming that he won't be taking part because of contract difficulties. Does seem like she was meant to do it initially and he sounds a bit fed up with her IMHO...

although there is an article in the sheffield newpaper there was a link on darren and lilias website forum that quoted him as saying he wont be dancing so i doubt they will turn around and show up
although he mentioned something about her contract and not the money!
it really strikes me as very un-jill halfpenny-like to not do it due to money
because technically SCD launched her into a different type of career
would she have got chicago without it.....?

Ooohhh, I hope somehow she changes her mind because Jill is what SCD is about - a talented, fun, competitive dancer who got the scores she deserved and made it look so easy.

If Jill cannot do the Christmas Special for whatever reason, why can't the BBC pair Darren with one of the US contestants or other, as they have with Brendan. He has to right to defend his title and should be there! They need six couples, and Brendan and one other pro (yet to be announced) will be dancing with people they have not worked with before, so why not Darren, who has every right to be there? Hope this occurs to someone at the BBC!

Yes Darren is Champion of Champion he can't just not dance he actually HAS to dance, he's my absolute favourite male professional!

Perhaps we should start a keep Darren in thread?

I for one will be greatly disappointed if Jill doesn't perform on SCD special, she's the best of them all. She can even easily beat Rachael Hunter.

Anyway we still don't have the facts so fingers crossed.
