I have a Panasonic DVD player in the bedroom and have just bought a surround sound set from..........wait for it........Superdrug. Forget the quality, I just wanted a cheap set anyway. However, have I wasted my money (£25), because whilst the DVD has digital coaxial output plus Audio Left and Right, the amp has 3x3.5mm jack plug inputs, C/S, Rear and Front. Can I connect them together?

did it come with any connection wires?

does the amp have dolby prologic? as you could connect the dvd players audio L & R outputs into the front input with a 3.5mm to 2 phono leads (i guess it came with 3 of those?) and then you can have dolby pro-logic from the dvd or anything like a tv or sky authough this isn't proper surround sound you will still get sound out of all the speakers

No mention of Prologic. All wires are supplied and this is how the instructions say to connect it:

It looks like these speakers are meant to go with a specific DVD player or system which has an integrated surround sound decoder.

Since your DVD player doesn't have this (only a digital out to connect an external decoder or amp) there isn't any way of connecting it.

You could try to connect the stereo audio output of the DVD player (the red and white RCA jack) into the front input on the speakers, however since it presumably has no integrated decoder all you're going to get is stereo sound coming out of the left and right speaker and no surround sound (unless you bought a seperate decoder in which case you might as well buy a decent surround sound system with matching speakers).

In case all you 159 viewers out there are thinking I've nicked it - you're wrong. I bought it in Superdrug and declined the DVD player that went with it. So, it will connect to a dvd player and give 5.1 sound. It just won't connect to mine!
And............ a fortnight earlier, I bought the same thing but took it back as faulty. It was then £35 so when I saw it further reduced this week, I had to have it, doh!
I'm a bit embarrassed to take it back.

lol, i would also be a bit embarrassed to take it back too, could you take it back to a superdrug in a different town? You will only be able to get stereo sound from the front speakers with that system using the front inputs and the l & r outputs on your dvd player as previously said.

Ok, the saga's over. I took it back to a different Superdrug and got my money back.
Anyone recommend another cheap one for the bedroom?

I saw that in Superdrug aswell but wasn't tempted, The DVD player advertised with it had a Dolby Digital surround sound amp built in and i had never heard of the make,

So i assume these speakers were meant for this unit only.

Well I am looking at buying these speakers and want to hook it up to my computer with a 5.1 sound card in it.

On the back of my pc, I have "in, mic, rear, front and sub/centre"

Will this 5.1 thing from superdrug work?
