Add HD capability to existing screen
I have a Sony Vaio VGC-V2S Media Centre TV (runs on windows xp, screen res: 1280 x 768). I am considering subscribe to Sky HD when it comes out next year, but V2S does not have any HD capable inputs (i.e. HDMI and/or DVI). Is there such a product that can add HD-compatible inputs to my V2S, such as a PCMCIA TV card or a USB 2 dongle?

You will need to buy a SKY box to get the HD signal when it comes out next year. I understand that the first generation of these boxes will support component out. But in the long run SKY will lose this connection as they surely will want to control the copy write using the HDCP tecnology avaliable with HDMI.
Sorry can't answer your question directly but I am also interested in the answer, because I am thinking of getting a Sony TV KDL-L32MRX1 and this also does not have a HDMI or DVI. |

I don't believe you can upgrade a screen to DVI but you've basically got a fancy laptop and you can get TV tuners for laptops now, I'm sure in the future they'll have HD cards but I don't expect anything for a few years. There isn't anything for PC's now let alone laptops.
I believe there are HDMI to VGA boxes available but anyone thinking of buying a new TV would be best advised to get a HDready one for peace of mind |

I'm not too technical with computers, but I would guess that the bandwidth of USB2 or PCMCIA should be more than enough for I/O devices that supports HDMI/DVI. So why haven't any manufacturers thought about making such devices?
