What dance could you do to....

'I've had the time of my life'

'Lover Boy'

'Do you love me?'

Fired up into a Dirty Dancing frenzy after seeing Patrick Swayze on just about every chat show there is in the past few days, I cranked up the three Dirty Dancing tunes I have on my PC and got to thinking.....

I've gathered that you can do, more or less, any ballroom or latin dance to, more or less, any tune (even if it ends up almost unrecognisable ).

So what dance would fit the Dirty Dancing songs??

Am thinking that Goughie would be able to show off his prowess 'doing a Swayze' to 'I've had the time of my life'

'I've had the time of my life' - Chachacha

'Lover Boy' - slow the music down to do the Foxtrot

'Do you love me?' - Jive

But I am no dancer or musician

What about the Samba to I've had the time of my life? It kind of fits the feel but I'm not sure the dance would fit the music.

A Jive or a Samba would be suited to "Do You Love Me" - That's an easy one; come on, where was the test there?! I'm only kidding. =D I personally would love to see a Rumba fit "She's Like The Wind" Oh god because not only would it symbolise the sensual, seductive yet romantic of all the Latin dances but if you listen to the Lyrics in the song I think overall the Musicality would be astonishing. The Niji has spoken... =) Seriously though I think a Rumba would suit so well.

So what would fit the first one, I'm tryin to think. Don't they do the mambo to it in the film?

'I've had the time of my life' is the song at the end, the 'nobody puts baby in a corner' one *wells up thinking about it again*.

'Lover Boy' is what I term the 'mucky one' The one where they're in the dance studio.................

Darn it, am off to a well known cheap DVD purchasing website I must do my research

Well if anyone reading this knows what where the word Takseem comes from they'd know what style of dance I would do - it can be pretty adaptable - but unfortunately would never feature on SCD!

I found this

takseem “an improvised piece of music or dance that has no rhythm.” But I'm non the wiser!

"Do You Love Me" was used in series 1 by Chris Parker.

I'm not exactly sure which dance it was for, but I really think it was the jive.

Sooooooooo, if the finalists do a 'freestyle' dance does that mean they make up their own dance (ie not strictly anything) and so could then do their own thing to something like 'I've had the time of my life'???

(sorry, am getting well into my Goughie does Dirty Dancing day dream )
bendymixer

yes freestyle is just that they make a routine up to a piece of music which does not need to have a strict tempo

Oh blinking heck, scrap my musings at once!

Have just had a read on the BBC SCD website and Natasha and Brendan did freestyle to 'I've had the time of my life' in the final of the first series.

I blame that Patrick Swayze for turning my head.......
