Hands up how many of you guys/girls are either Ex Comp dancers or currently "at it" ooo err if you know what I mean.

I'll start by admitting to it myself, dancing in Amateur comps between 1972 and 1982. I'm sure Karen Hardy was in the Amateur section while I was in Pre-Am and I have a sneeky feeling that Mathew Cutler may be the son of Martin Cutler (danced with Carol Bedford). robin Short & rita Last were my ballroom teachers and Richard Rose (Still teaching and adjudicating) was my Latin teacher. I do remember Martin Cutler and I did wonder if that was his son in SCD. I saw him (Martin) do a demo with Carol years ago.

err beg to differ although Karen Jonstone now hilton was the World professional ballroom champion she was first the World Amateur Latin Champion with marcus they swapped to ballroom when turning pro cos their was plenty of top latin couples in the pro section and the ballroom was in need of a good pair from england.

Martin and Carol are not matthews mum and dad according to my brother who Im sure you will know cos he was dancing in the eighties although only just adult then saw Donny recently at congress he was more orange than david dickenson

I've lost touch - did Shirley Stopford ever win the World Champs with that American guy? I loved to watch her and Sammy dance, poetry in motion. He was so innovative, in one comp they danced a rumba using basic steps only, it was fantastic.

OHHH brings back so many memories. I competed in the late 70's as a juvenile (we used to go to a competition held in coventry each year) but never went any further. I remember going to demo's by champions at the time (can't remember any names at the moment) and also the magic that was Donny Burns and Gaynor Fairweather - ohhhhh happy days! lol

aww Shirley Stopford remember her when she was starting out in all girls (omg am I old or what) and her saying she would marry a millionaire one day and she did fairly well with corky didnt she.

That open basic rumba performed in competition at Blackpool is one of my all time memories donnie walked to one end of the floor and sammy walked to our end and performed the best rumba ever done at blackpool

Stunning wasn't it? I can remember all the gossip when Shirley left Sammy for Corky, wonder what the attraction was!!!???
