Why Does Everyone Get So Personal?

When I first joined this forum I was impressed with the mature, well thought out and intelligent threads and subsequent responses. Today though in nearly every thread I've found members attacking each others opinion, and generally taking the whole show to seriously.

Do you think this is because we have become so wrapped up in the goings on in the big brother house that we have forgotten it is only a telly programme? Or is this forum just full of friends and relatives of the HMs?

When people have nothing constructive to say they resort to personal attacks, human nature I'm afraid.

My friend posted a thread like this as she was getting a bit upset with all the flame wars but the response she got was basically we are on the internet - we dont know each other and we are having a heated argument with no back up from physical gestures so it will get more heated. Those being the replies I thought about it and i suppose they are right - this forum is as much entertainment as the programme if not more sometimes and no one is being really harmful or truly hurting the other people on the board so just go with the flow and use your ignore button for the one or two people who are the main offenders.

I suppose it's a bit like road rage: people have more extreme reactions when they can't read others' facial expressions.

The thing I like about these forums is that you get an idea of what other people think etc...

and it certainly does surprise me at just how serious some people get about nothing. Evidence: This thread.

Let me suggest that we all learn to lighten up a little and stop thinking that we are making crucial entries into a historic document that may change the outcome of the world.

Its a forum, its entertainment....enjoy it a little

YYEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For two days I've been doing my darnedest to lighten things up and divert some people way from the deadly dull self-opinionated cr@p that ends up in some forums.

Add to that the quite dreadful personal insults that some people have had and you end up with a forum that might not last the series.

And that's a shame. Early on it was great on here. I used to enjoy the crack and the clever banter but it all just degenerated into a mush.

But - it might change back so I'm gonna keep trying

Im gald you have picked up on all the member bashing as well as the HMS.
I nearly posted a thread earlier today after reading a members post about Jonny and Alex
This member got slated personally by other members for liking Jonny.
I know we take out our frustrations in these threads, we all have different views on how we perceive the HMS. But it does not excuse people getting personal about each other.
These forums are produced to incite a lively debate and yes some do get carried away. I myself will put her hand up and say I have been guilty of this, after reading some of the posts. We have been so captured in the whole BB experience that sometimes we forget they are only human.
The things which have been more worrying is some peoples obssession of reading to much into an action and turning it into a frenzy. today was a prime example of Jade in the pool with Kate and Jonny and Kate trying to reassure Jade her hair looked fine.
Anyone would think there had been sinsiter goings on and mind games, by the tone of the threads. This is what evokes peoples anger and things start getting personal in the responses.

I for one find it sickening the way people are behaving on these threads. If they are so called fans they are doing them no favours with some of the comments they are coming out with.

I've always tried to understand other people's point of view, even if I don't agree. I thought that was what the forum was all about - hearing other's views. It does annoy me somewhat when people attack others for daring to post thoughts which they don't agree with, but thankfully, these people are few, and there's always the "ignore" facility.

Don't let them get to you, it's not that important.

Rather than make unhelpful generalisations to answer this question, why can't we simply ASK people who do get "personal"?
That seems logical to me.

I hate people who use "we" when they really mean, "you lot". 'Tis the tactic of a greasy politician. That and JADE!

I think that, in many threads I have waded through, it is not always a case of "what was written" but more in the context of "how it was written".

Some people start a thread, offering their close minded and, on occasion, biggoted view, then clear off and read the posts knowing they are stirring up a hornets nest.

I have found that the easiest way around these simple minded people is to simply ignore their thread and go onto the next one.

the reason people resort to personal attacks here is simply because they want to be right and cannot accept another persons post if it does not agree with their point of view. this is a way of trying to disregard the other persons post to make the point useless and not valid. this happens in politics. if an mp from one party makes a statement then the other mp will try and make that point not valid.

If posters resort to abuse or hosility surely it is because they cannot support their view with a decent argument and they therefore lose the battle!

fans, or ex-fans, of the programme, not the HMs necessarily. Who on earth in this motley crew deserves to have a 'fan club'!!!??? They are all a defective, boring, dysfunctional lot! Slag on folks! They have given us at least this form of entertainment out of BB3!

Its also quite weird that the 'slaggers' are, in fact behaving like the worst aspects of the housemates.

maybe thats it, 'you are are what you eat'.

yeh but you don't see Tony Blair calling Charles Kennedy a ginger t**t, even if he is one

The reason, I think, people start personal attacks in here is because most of the forum members are spotty teenagers!!!
