In a nutshell this steams from last night's ITT in which Claudia posed to us the viewing public and well...people in general the question "What is the du Beke effect?" or something to that extent anyway, I wasn't paying enough attention upon hearing her link to an Anton VT

When my friend was watching it with me she asked me: "Go ahead, What is it and what does it do to you?" I waited until the VT had finished, simply looked at her and said "It's like a Contaigion; It's infectious and once you are infected there is no cure. For if there were a cure I might actually have to design an anti-cure-cure virus so that no-one would be allowed to be cured of the du Beke" In short Anton = YUM. *Drools*

Anyway, This is basically now the question that I pose to you lovely people; What is du Beke Effect for you?

Go ahead, Go off on your tangents, I must say i'll be dissapointed if you didn't.

I think the Du Beke effect is just a case of a character from a walk of life that doesn't normally get a public airing is now very high profile, with the success of SCD.

We all meet people who seem larger than life and I suspect Anton is like that and to be honest he has been a godsend to SCD, because 'shrinking violet' is a phrase that could never be assiciated with Anton. And I am fairly sure that he loves all the attention, oh and he does always look very smart......

the Du Beke effect for me is kinda hard to explain.
He is in character a lot like an ex of mine, and Mr FC wouldn't like it if i were drooling over the ex, but i can drool over Anton (who is slightly better than the ex) as i'm never going to meet him and start anything therefore Mr FC feels safe and un threatened.

The Du Beke Effect for me, is just one of complete wonder! He cracks me up so much but also has me attracted to him. He is the sort of person who you feel cannot be real but when u meet him he is exactly that way!!!!!

I think lesley G summed it up that every woman should have half an hour with Anton du Beke!!!!'

It is actually very difficult to explain why I'm so attracted to him once I sit down and think about it. I'm not really the kind of person who experiences a lot of (especially sexual) attraction based upon the way people look. Obviously it does happen, but I'm mostly more attracted to personalities, the way people are, because it's less disappointing than finding someone really good looking and when you scratch the surface there's either nothing there, or something not very pleasant there (not always of course).

Anton has an enormously attractive personality...the kind that makes me smile whether I want to or not whenever he's on the screen. I love his sense of humour, the slight aura of naughtiness that he has, and also the sense that he is a genuinely lovely, funny guy. The fact that he is physically quite pleasing I didn't notice properly until I'd picked up on all these things first, but now I can allow myself to admire his outer lovliness as well as his inner fabulousness! Tres bon!

for me i'd say the du beke effect is someone who has a larger tha life personality - something you dont see everyday! he is a complete eccentric - could brendan rlly wear bright pink trousers (?!) and he is just so funny!!!! the du beke effect must be some sort of transmission that makes u fall completely in love with anton just by looking at him......!!!

He has a verve for life which is to be admired and brings happiness.

Kelpy has put down exactly what I was going to say but likely in a far more eloquent manner.

It's Anton's personality that attracts you to him. He's got a very old school charm, gentlemanly manner and wicked glint in his eye. His sense of humour very much matches mine which is a definite bonus.

It's hard to believe that he can really be like that but I met him a couple of times at SCD last year and he was just a lovely in the flesh. I know people who have had lessons with him who say just the same. He's very patient and very good humoured about things. He's extremely competitive and definitely hates to lose but after he's had a bit of a sulk about it he can laugh at himself which is always a good quality.

Then you see him dance something like the American Smooth and thud yourself into a pile of swoon. Fabulous grace and elegance, just floats across the floor. Just beautiful. Combine that with his personality and he's the man a lot of ladies would like to be swept around the floor by.

SCD would certainly be a duller place with out him and long may he stay and cheer up cold Saturday nights.

The other thing I've realised after reading your post is that Anton makes me interested in dancing like nobody else does. I mean, I can admire the obvious talent of Darren B, Brendan, Lilia, Erin etc, but only Anton makes me want to go out there and do it (mainly with him, it has to be said!)

For me I don't know if I could cope with him on a date as the campness would get on me nerves.

But I can see him being a stallion in other areas. Nudge Nudge Wink Wink

Well I have to confess that the true nature of just what the du Beke effect is eludes me as well but I just thought it was not only a very thought provoking question to get the brain-juices flowing but also quite frankly yet another excuse to talk about the Ballroom Hero that is the du Beke.

He does have that certain: Je nais se' Quais and Va-va voom doesn't he? =P

I agree Anton is a superb, wonderful dancer, he is such a gentleman(and there are not many of them left!); and his personality makes me want to take up dancing again. Having said that, I find Anton & Erin as a professional couple inspiring since I think they are the most elegant classy couple on the professional circuit.

I totally agree, I think Anton's and Erins personalities really complement each other -

as for the Due Beke Effect I think he is the only professional dancer (apart from possibly Darren) who makes you feel like even if you were awful he would think /say you were wonderful and every time he is on the screen he makes you laugh - he seems to find the smallest things amusing and has that appealling naughty side that Goughie also has

omduk, I agree with you, I think he would really affirm you no matter how awful you were. He certainly has that little twinkle in the eye which makes you think he's up to something!

I think the Du Beke Effect is that everyone likes him. You can't help it.
He's just a genuinely funny guy with a bit of old school charm thrown in. He loves to dance and you can see his enthusiasm throughout. Love the banter between him and Claudia on SCD IT2.

As I've said elsewhere Bendy, Anton is a big part of SCD along with the likes of Brendan, Camilla, Erin, Lilia and Darren. He's entertaining, his popularity is as simple as that.

You clearly have issues with him, fair enough. You take him how you find him from your personal experience, I'll take him how I find him from mine and we'll agree that no one is going to like everyone.

Such a same that Bendymixer couldn't have started an 'Anton lovers stay away thread'. Then we could have avoided offending him so much.

Kelpy and Claire have got it in a nutshell - it's the whole Anton package which makes him so special. Most women love a man who can make them laugh, and he has such a wicked, sometimes off the wall sense of humour. The thing about going shopping wearing the underwear he'd been sent cracked me up completely.

It's not just a straightforward lust thing with Anton. People keep having dreams about meeting him in department stores, for goodness' sake.

We imagine we could just sit and talk to him (well, ok, it probably would be us doing a lot of listening), or go for a drink, or shopping as well as things of a more personal nature which have no place at all within a pubic forum))))

You can imagine that he would bring you a cup of tea and lie you down on the settee if you had a headache, he'd build your confidence if you'd had a rubbish day at work.

Overall I definitely think the DB Effect is a force for good in the world. Maybe we could clone Anton so we could all find him under our tree on Christmas morning

I hope the headache gets better, Claire. Sappy the idea may be, but it's probably true and it's what we've seen with Patsy. I would love to see what he'd have made of Fiona. I thought Brendan was unnecessarily cruel and didn't get the best out of her. Now there are lots of people who say that Brendan is a real sweetie, but it didn't come across either this series or last.

Libby, I love Anton but I think you might be mistaken if you think he would bring you a cup of tea. I reckon that he would be a bit of a man's man in real life. He likes to play golf, my family are all golfers and most men in that world are more ones for being made a cup of tea.

That said, I still think he is the best thing since sliced bread. What some people don't realise about us Anton Lovers is that we know his faults.
People think that we only see the act he puts on. He has good and bad qualities, but the whole package rounds up to be incredibly irresistable.

Teresa, he does seem to be good at empathising with people and looking after them which is why I made the tea comment.

I don't think anyone believes a saint. No doubt he has an ego the size of Jupiter, probably not helped if he reads what's written about him on here

Claire has said she thinks he can be quite moody if he loses as he has a very competitive streak. I can empathise with that as I don't like losing either - and I know many men who spend an afternoon sulking if their football team gets beaten.
