What spoils strictly for most of us

What spoils strictly? The voting off of our favourites each week. What if Aunty Beeb was to introduce a radical new voting system that would allow all the celebs to stay in until the end? By introducing a league table ( using the judges points and the viewers votes together )we would have everyone dancing each week and competing for chart position. Everybody is a winner CIN gets more money and we get to follow our favourites progress week to week. The judges would be more constructive in their views. The contestants motivated to rise up the league. The viewers getting more of what we love best about strictly...

You have a point, I like to see the learning curve rather than those with a natural talent week after week.

I always feel the most sorry for the first couple who get the boot who knows they may have gone on to become confident dancers.

I know it's horrible etc., but I think the threat of going home is what motivates the couples (and we get more time with the couples that do stay in - two dances each this week). The only thing I would do is have no exits until the third week (which would mean 10 couples to start with or extending the series by two weeks to accomodate 12 couples).

I think there's something in that - although you'd have to have far less couples - there isn't enough time in one show to get to know them all.

Quite agree with you Elphinstone. That is a brilliant suggestion. You should put it to the BBC.. who knows? It certainly is a fairer way of doing things and keeping everybody happy in that they see their favourites every week.

The only problem I'd have with that is that most of the celebrities improve as the series goes on (although there have been one or two notable exceptions!) So those with natural ability move onwards and upwards as well as those without. In other words, I don't think the end result would be any different and I'm not sure how easy it would be to keep motivating those at the bottom of the league for all those weeks, even if they are improving.

But I do take the point and I certainly agree that it can be just as interesting to watch someone who started off struggling gradually get better and better as it is to watch someone who's good from the start steadily improve.

I could not have faced much more Fiona - Sorry!

Perhaps from the 12 contestants, the first 6 are elminated as standard then the final 6 have a leaderboard?

This should elimainate the problems that Annied raised.

You would have the dancing on One and the getting to know them better on TWO.It would mean extending the series/programme length.Might mean reducing number of couples to 10 and being a bit more selective in who you have from the start.

wht i dont like - but its all part of it - is when u get completely attached to people like karen and bill and they get kicked out - its so depressing!!!!!!

I find the only thing that spoils Strictly for me is the completely unnecessary, childish, ignorant, hurtful comments thrown at the participants by one or two very egotesticle (no, I meant to spell it like that) people on the panel. Replace them with people who show more respect for the time and effort these guys all put in to their dancing and the whole SCD world would be a better place. They can still criticise for crying out load, just do it more constructively and just because the beginning of a routine isn't to one persons taste does not make it grotesque. Throw them OUT get some real people IN and the show would be much the better for it (IMHO).

Oh, and the music....urgh lets do Ballroom Dancing to Ballroom music and leave most of this stuff in the disco where it belongs.

OK OK I'm going....I'll get me coat

You are right and Ar....has got the biggest egotesticles. If Karen doesn't want to come back as a dancer she could come back as Arlene's replacement.Or I would gladly partner Karen as I am a celebrity/legend in my own lunchbox.

the other benefit of keeping all the dancers for longer is we would get to see more of the pros - which is such a pleasure. (brendan I love you ). But sadly I do agree that I couldn't have coped with more of Fiona, I don't mean this in a nasty way, but I don't think she was improving at all, I think brendan was simplifying the dances....she had reached her limit.

I wonder how they select the slebs? Do they have an aptitude test before they partner them up, or to make sure they have a spread of talents? I mean if they chose 12 who were all hopeless or all brilliant it would be unbalanced. Did they know Fiona was going to find it that difficult? She did try but obviously, as Craig said, just couldn't dance. I like the idea of a league table, though maybe it's only because my favourites have just been voted out

And I think in a lot of cases it would be cruel to keep the celebrities humiliating themselves so long.. .much as I am devasted that Bill & Karen are not going to be dancing this Saturday... I do think the way the show is works... if they were all in every week we would lose all of the tension and worry and excitement. Sometimes it is wrong when a couple leaves but that is what makes live TV exciting. This series the standard of dancing was so high that all the couples (maybe excepting Fiona) were capable of staying and trying their hands at the different dances... but if you think of previous years when we've had people like Quentin and David Dickinson... it's just cruel to keep them on live TV in front of millions of people when they are obviously struggling to the point it is embarrassing.. I imagine one or two weeks of trying the dancing is enough for them... and maybe us too!

I feel the same, every time I see the pictures on the credits I feel bad for who went out first

ok....what spoils strictly for me is the way that bruce always talks during the judges comments, and personally i think that he is trying to steal mthe limelight away from the dancers.
I also don't like the way our favourites are being voted out each week..and everytime i see the credits I feel sorry for siobhan and matthew...they could've gone on to win for all we know.

What spoils it for me is the time it takes for Tess and Bruce to announce the results. I took to timing the silences last series cos it's so annoying. (90 seconds at times) If I'm out and have taped it at least I can just fast forward to the final decision.
No doubt they say it's to heighten the suspense, but we could have a whole extra dance in the time they take. (that said, I hate films with 'this is the suspenseful time' music too!)

That doesn't spoil it to me though I think it is an UNBEARABLE silence each time. Isn't that just one of the things that makes it a tension-building live show?

Its just got to be Bruce. I know there are people out there who like him (and yes, I've met all three of them) but the way he interrupts the judges and the dancers with inane attempts at humour drives us all mad. I could go on about his blatant sexist attitude and ....
