Anyone read these two pieces on media guardian this morning.

Channel 4 censoring their own reporters!

http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcas...755864,00.html

http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcas...755856,00.html

What do you think?

its amazingly short sighted and frankly stupid to think that be censoring your own web site that noone will hear the articles.
Exactly what are they scared of?. CH4 do the same on the bb web page forums, any posts critisising BB are removed, with no explanation.
I agree with the guardian articles, the hate hurled towards some of the BB contestants is ridiculously OTT, and ,as I have said before, says volumes more about the people making the comments than it does about the BB contestant on the receiving end.

however, to be fair, people do get carried away with the momentum and the daily battering from the tabloids doesnt help at all. sometimes I think its good to step back a bit and analyze your feelings and, when you do, it all seems such trivial reasons for such vicious hate campaigns.

Hey that doesn't surprise me from C4 (have you seen their BB site?).

I am sure their coaching Jade by Brett coupled with master editing, was not for the interest of Jade, no, it was/is purely because Jade generated more viewing figure, and they will keep her in there as long as possible for C4 own benefit not Jade's.

This doesn't surprise me either, after all C4 is a company and the aim of any company is to generate as much income as possible by whatever means.

Channel 4 is also a public service broadcaster with a public service mandate from the government. It is not merely a profit-making concern.

I thought only the BBC was a 'public service broadcaster' in the UK. Did not think that the other channels had any 'obligation' to the government about serving the public interest

The other broadcasters do have obligations - they have to observe certain standards (BSA)...as far as I know broadcasting licences are given by the government, and there are certain parameters set when these are given. For instance there's been some talk about the Channel 5 licence being put up for grabs when its expires - although this seems less likely now. I'd take it off them for failing to achieve nationwide coverage!

re the article - I think it was stupid of C4 to refuse to use it, espeically given that they had given Borkowski free rein to be 'controversial'. It was a good article too - although he forgets that the performers in a Freak Show (on the whole) got paid very well and made a decent living from displaying their differences to the world. In BB we don't want difference - I think we like to see our own worst qualities on display and then slag them off, pretending that we're not like that, only HM A, B or C is like that. Also in BB of course they don't get paid well for their 'trouble'...it's a mug's game - more so this year than in previous years, and what is really sad is that if they go ahead with it again next year, they'll still have thousands (probably hundreds of) hopefuls ready to demean themselves and be the butt of public hatred, in return for their 15 minutes.

Lilith.
Thats a good point about how hm's get critisised for behaviour that everyone does to a certain extent

It left me wondering

the people that are most vicious and nasty in their comments about hm's....what do you all think they themselves are like as people?.

Conversly, the ones That defend the HM's and try to understand the hm's behaviour, instead of just insulting them, what sort of people are THEY.

I know which type of person Id rather meet in a dark alley on a saturday night.

I think watching Big Brother brings out the worst in people. I don't think I am a better person for watching it. I think I'd have been better off doing something else. Now I'm just keen for it to end and get back to a normal life and for the addiction to be over. I won't be watching it next year for this reason. But I don't remember feeling like this after the first two series.

I'm not surprised that C4 chose not to publish that article when it's factually incorrect. Take this paragraph: "Certainly, I don't see BB stepping in to give her a helping hand on how to cope with the return from reality TV to reality, despite the parade of onscreen psychologists brought in to comment on the housemates' behaviour and to warp the voting public's perceptions."

It makes it sound that as soon as the Davina interview was over Adele was shown the door and left to fend for herself on the street. In reality after she spoke to Davina she would have had a chat with Brett and the senior producers about how she was portrayed, then been put up at a hotel with her family and friends. All the following week she was on BBLB and she has the chance to continue seeing Brett for up to six months. She will also have been supplied with an agent and a PR to maximise her media engagements. I don't blame C4 for not publishing the article at all.

Someone explain to me the point of watching this show AT ALL if you don’t get involved and choose favourites and hate others?

BB is absolute crap as a passive viewing experience. All but unwatchable live, unless someone’s killing someone else, the only time it succeeds is if we, as viewers, invest in one or more of the HMs and decide to like or dis-like them. All of you lot who’re advocating treating this as a normal TV show are completely missing the point.

There is a huge difference between disliing a contestants and wildy overreacting to that contestant, to the point where people think they are the devil incarnate.
I didnt LIKE Jade much when during 'sophiegate', and said so. however, I think shes progressed admirably since then, and has learned a lot from BB. and if other evicted HM's can see that then surely we can?.

Problem is that I know that I am irrational in some of my BB dislikes - like robx I don't think it's been a good experience for me this year - but I have loved it previously.

I'll be glad when it's over next week - although I'll probably fume if the person I think is going to win, does!

It is only a game show, but it does have the capacity to mess up people's lives a bit (contestants not viewers!)

Oh btw, accidie if BB are doing that for contestants this year that's great - it's about time too, because contestants from previous years have complained about the lack of post-show support they got.

Yep me too. It's like a bad film but you've wasted hours watching it and you feel compelled to see it through to the bitter and very disappointing end.

MGOM
won't watch BB4
