Hdtv Adaptor?
Hi
Surely everyone is not going to dump their existing 42 inch plasmas or lcd's just to get a hd ready tv? Will there not be some kind of convertor box or adaptor to feed the hd signal to existing sets? As long as the set has the right lines? Paulus. |

I expect the people that bought a flat panel display before any HD service was announced bought it for the size, weight and asthetic value and therefore HD may not be a factor.
They were happy before so will be happy now ![]() If they bought a panel with the expectation of HD before the specs were given (or rumoured) then for most the component option will be viable which is why SKY back tracked on using only a digital HDCP equipped connection. No idea what TW and NTL are up to ![]() The capabilities of the SKY+ HD and other HD STB's is still largely unknown, it may be that the STB is more than capable of feeding even a panel that is restricted to 60hz. |

In the early days of colour TV you could buy a plastic filter you'd slap onto a monochrome screen. It had blue at the top and faded into green at the bottom - ideal for football but not much else.
Reading the headline to this thread I thought someone was going to ask if there was a simple way to enlarge the screen to HDTV capability.... Tomorrow's World would have had one.... H |

paulus29 these were just my concerns too, although I have not had much luck getting answers.
Sky I think will output HD via component on the 1st generation boxes, dropping it for the 2nd gen. NTL who are now part of telewest reackon they will be before SKY in transmitting and they are ONLY outputing HD though HDMI. Freeview don't know. I am sure I also saw a potential Toshiba DVD player proposed to only output HD via HDMI and lower res through other outputs. So it is looking like if you want to view HD you will need an HDMI connector. This I think is all to try and prevent copying so any potential legal convertor boxes will only output SD (in my view). hmm having said all that http://www.svideo.com/adadvi2vga2.html has DVI to VGA and DVI to HDMI
