I too have the same problem with my Philips TV. It's a known toppy bug, but doesn't seem to affect everyone

If you re-connect to the second scart out on your toppy (the bottom one), that fixed for me. The downside is you then have to manully select the appropriate AV channel on TV even when you want to play.

Not sure when this is planned on being fixed - Nigel may know?

Hi Ganal

I think this is about your issue.
Not been a problem for me so never looked into it. Perhaps you could try the sat/tv button; its the one with the Jodrell Bank pic.
At least one of the people who posts on here has had this problem so perhaps he will know more. (Captain are you there? )
I think it is related to feature change No 40 on the toppy site so perhaps the update due on the 17th will do something about it.

I had the problem when I first got my Toppy because I was using my NTL Cable box to view TV and using my Toppy like a VCR.

The problem still exists but since I hardly ever watch NTL these days it's not really a problem any more.

It only happens when the Toppy comes out of standby so the obvious solution would be to leave the Toppy on all the time your watching TV.

You can disable automatic channel change to the Toppy by snipping the pin 8 connection on its scart lead. You will then need to manually select the Toppy when you want to watch it. (Widescreen switching via WSS Line 23 will still work).

Topfield are aware of the issue but AFAIK are not definitely committed to doing anything about it. Just be thankful you don't have a TV that turns itself on automatically when the Toppy starts recording - that can be very annoying in the middle of the night

An obvious answer would be to watch ALL TV through the Toppy, not just recorded programs (in other words, leave the TV permanently set to the "Toppy channel"). This gives you the "pause live TV" feature, which you don't have with the way you use it at the moment.

I appreciate that it seems a bit silly to have a TV with integrated Freeview receiver and not use that functionality but I can't believe there would be a significant loss of picture quality going through the Toppy instead.

I only used to use my GDB2 as a 'TV channel extender' watching ch1-5 on analogue, 6 ( itv2 +) and above on digital now my toppy has taken over channels 1-5 as well.

If you don't want the TV to switch one of the easiest ways is to use a scart to composite/s-video converter at the toppy end and send that to your tv rather than doing scart to scart.

Better idea always to watch tv thro toppy.

When I had an IDTV I only used the integrated tuner to watch channels on a third multiplex when dual recording (now I use my i-player as the third digital tuner for my new (non-ID)TV).
