i got a new mobile phone on the o2 network, on pay monthly contract, from the mobilephoneshop. the offer was: monthly tariff £30.00 but, as it offered the £360.00 back by redemption in 4 stages, i decided to go for it. i have had three bills in so far, and not one has been for £30.00. the first was over 30, the second over 40 and the latest £53.80. i do not use premium services or make premium rate calls from this phone and do not go over my tariff allowance - in fact i still have minutes in hand. i am looking into this at the moment, but i would warn anyone considering taking up one of these offers to be careful, as they are not always what they seem has anyone else had this problem?

For about seven years I insisted on having contract phones. I really don't see the point of contracts anymore. I've noticed that the average cost of a contract these days is £20+. For the last 2 years i've been on PAYG. The PAYG deals are probably the best they have ever been at the moment, best of all there's no commitment.

i would have to disagree with you i have had a contract for a year based on cash redemtion if you know a call is within your minute you will never be charged.. but if you make a mistake and phone numbers like 0870 0845 09 or even 0800 numbers then those are obviously not included everything else within uk should be permitted.. you will probably get a bill of 30 pounds and some pennies at most if you followed this guide im sure of it

that is why i'm so astounded at the cost of the bill. i have stayed within the guidelines and not used any premium services or premium numbers. i use the landline for premium numbers. also, this phone is mainly for emegencies, so i can be sure i haven't gone over my contract by £23.80. a mobile phone isn't that important to me that i would pay exorbitant rates for it. i don't know whether it is the fault of o2 or the mobilephoneshop from whom i took out the offer.

1. Are you sure that all calls made are included within your free allowance?
It may not just be premium rate calls that are excluded from the free minutes. (e.g. some deals are not cross network)
2. Do you send texts? Do you have a monthly text allowance?
3. Do you receive texts? Are these being charged to your account because they are a premium service?

What do the extra charges on your bill say they are for?

If you truly believe you are being overcharged, contact your network.

Alternatively, get itemised billing and then you will see where your money is going

Not trying to sound like the king of kingdom know it all. But it is obvious you are either going over your free allocation or making calls to numbers not included.

The tariff priceis x amount. If you use standard numbers and less than what you get, then thats how much it will cost simply the base tariff price.

i actually received an e-mail from o2 saying they had overcharged me, and had not given me my 400 minutes, only 300, and will debit the refund from my next bill! thank goodness it's all sorted out.
