I've had enough of my abysmal Draytek router and have to return it now. I'm looking at replacing it with this -

http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...ProductID=2225

Can anyone give me feedback on this router, or if not, any other Linksys VOIP routers please?

Also, does the unit have UK-style ringtones and caller display?

My Draytek only had American style ringing and my PBX wouldn't recognise it (the PBX thought the phone was ringing then disconnected, then started ringing a couple of seconds later as a new call, so of course it couldn't get voicemail on the PBX etc).

So have I made a good choice with that as a replacement?

Thanks.

I have a LinkSys wireless router and also a LinkSys PAP2 ATA, have not had any problems whatsoever with them, nor the LinkSys routers I have put in for friends.

At the moment I'm using the Linksys WRT54G using the DD-WRT third party firmware and the Linksys PAP2 ATA.

The firmware I use gives a fairly comprehensive QoS setup and allows service prioritisation by MAC address, IP or service. You might also want to take a look at the WRT54GS as it has more on-board memory and there are VOIP builds starting to appear for it. I've also seen reports of things like Asterisk running on it which (I believe) would allow you to register you ATA on the Asterisk software and have that register with a bunch of different VOIP providers and just route according to the cheapest (assuming you've set up the prefix tables properly).

No edit button so it'll have to be a double post...

As I've been recommending the WRT54G/S with custom firmware I thought I'd better mention Linksys/Cisco's latest trick with the WRT54 series I've just seen... http://forum.bsr-clan.de/ftopic4120.html

Basically if you want to be able to use custom firmware on a WRT54G or WRT54GS make sure you eiether have an older router (v4 or before) or pay the extra few quid for their Linux version.

That's really good info actually, thanks. The router I'm using right now may cause one or two issues when I try to return it as I think Broadband Buyer may want to swap it over etc. - hopefully they will just concede and replace it (anyone had experience of returns with them?)

So do Linksys products produce a UK-style ring tone?

Ring tone - do you mean your own phones ring tone, or the tone you hear when calling someone?

If you mean the ringing pattern you hear when your phones ring, then yes you can have a UK pattern (Ring Cadence), you can create any pattern you like. Use 30(.4/.2,.4/2) for UK style.

One thing I forgot to mention that hasn't been said anywhere on this thread yet (although I think BexTech has mentioned it on others) - the PAP2 ATA needs seperate ring-capacitor adapters (only a couple of quid each) between the ATA and the phones as it's technically a US product. You might find the same with the router you've linked to.

Yes it is cadence I'm thinking of thanks. I think I will go for the one mentioned in my opening link as this company doesn't sell any other Linksys VOIP routers besides this one, and I'm hoping they will do a straight swap (plus refund me a bit of money on this router) after they come to the realisation that the Draytek router is crap.

Latest on this thread - they've accepted the router back, they're replacing it with a Linksys WRT54G that does almost the same as the Draytek.

Here's the issue though, Broadband Buyer have been a pig to get a refund out of. They say because it's over 30 days old I return it to the manufacturer. I reminded them of their legal obligations, as my contract is with them not the manufacturer.

I posted the Draytek router back to them today and they're posting the new one out on receipt - but say although they will credit me for £25, they have to deduct £10 for shipping back to me!!! I'm going to wait for the new one to come then press to get this tenner back, it's the principle. As I understand it, the original router was not 'fit for purpose', so I'm entitled to a refund. Because it's not my fault, fair enough me having to pay shipping one way but not both ways.
