Feeling distinctly uneasy with James' 'aggression'

How many times has he been shown in training clips about to lamp the studio wall/training punch-bags etc with his fist?

Yesterday he was ignorant in the extreme after the Samba not taking Camilla's hand at the end of the dance and helping her up, but instead punching the air or whatever he was doing.

How come everyone thinks he's a gentleman? And why am I expecting to see Camilla with a black-eye next week?

James is a gentleman, when he's focusing on being a gentleman. I think the adrenaline rush stops him from being so half the time. I know the aggression shows but you haven't worked with him. He is very passionate, and works very hard. Trust me on this, when he is relaxed he is pretty cool, when he is under stress he's a git, when he thinks he's done something really good he turns into one of the lads. It's the way a lot of guys are, and the fact that the training clips only show him like this is the same as why we only see Brendan Cole shouting and being mean, because it's what the BBC want you to see.

Rather a spiteful post, I think.

I'm no James fan, and definitely think he should have gone out last night, but he ended the samba on his knees and Camilla was on her feet, so how could he have helped her up?

I dont see what your saying rubber_plant i am sorry but I feel James is a really nice guy and why do you feel camilla will come in with a black eye? i think James would never do a thing like that. In my opinion he is a really sweet guy and i cant help but disagree with your point sorry.

I'm no particular James fan, but I can't see where the OP is coming from. Sure he gets frustrated in practice and may punch a training bag, I get frustrated in work occassionally and have been known to kick a cardboard box across the office as a release of the frustration, certainly doesn't mean I'm about to lamp one of my co-workers. James gets frustrated at himself, and directs any 'aggression' at no one but himself.

Also, James punched the air at the end of the American Smooth, as he knew he'd pretty much nailed the dance, it was a release of adreniline (sp) and a celebration. I really don't get where the rather nasty bit about expecting to see Camilla with a black eye is coming from, and I seriously think you need to see about amending your OP.

Here Here, I agree.

In all the footage we've seen on TV, James has never once exerted aggression towards Camilla - all we're seeing is the man's frustration with himself.

It's perfectly possible to be frustrated/jubilant/emotional without being violent.

True & haven't all the male celebs reacted in similar fashion, at one time or another inthe series?

I'm not a great James fan either but I thought that his 'celebration' and maybe frustration this week was due to the fact that he had not been able to put in a lot of training time due to other commitments, and he was just pleased to have got throught the dances. I know all the other celebs have other work commitments like Colin with his jury service. But from what he was saying he really did have a hectic week

I quite agree. He punches the air after his performancing, in a self-congratulatory way only to be slated by the judges! I guess it's his relief at having completed the dance but it is arrogrant because he's presuming to have done a brilliant job. In addition to being aggressive, arrogant and unattractive, his punching the air is also a presumptuous and premature action. Get a grip, James.

No sorry. He punched the air, because during this weeks training he had struggled with the routine and he was pleased that he had manged to complete it without any major incidents. ie. He admitted that he had never got the lift right and had dropped her a few times. Also he might have guessed that he was going to have a hard time from the judges, so he was trying to get his confidence ready for the onsault that followed.

James has never shown any aggression during the series, only fustration, if he's struggling with the routines just like all the other dancers and celebrity's have. All the contestants cheer and celebrate after they think that they have done well. Just like what happens in normal dancing competitions.

That's harsh!!!!!!!! He gets frustrated with himself, not Camilla! And he has every right to be pleased after his dances. He did do well at the Smooth last night, Zoe was right, he was undermarked. I think the judges desire *not* to have him anywhere near the final is causing them to mark lower than deserved.

I think he genuinely didn't see her offer to help him up.

Same here his eyes were closed and he got up on the other side... so you cant have a go at the poor guy for not having eyes on the back of his head!

Sorry, but I can't feel much sympathy for James' hectic week. All the celebrities have other things to do, after all, and James certainly made use of his cooking obligations the week before when he baldly canvassed support from all and sundry before he had even danced a step that week.

But James is the only one who is currently doing both his day job and his dance practice. But saying that Darren and Zoe do have children and that must take up a lot of time.

Just like Zoe and Ian did that week when they went dancing on Brighton Pier, asking passers by to vote for them

I have to say, it's been a very strange weekend on here with all this over-analysing of people's actions. Clearly, the way you choose to interpret them depends upon how you feel about that person, so when someone uses the word "ignorant" it's not surprising to see them go on to lambaste the person. It's been very much the same with Zoe. If someone has already decided that she/he is the person from hell, they become convinced every little action they do is proof of this and only helps support their reasoning.

All the contestants seem to be very likeable people. I don't see why there is this need to be so mean about them.

In an earlier post I just used his hectic week as why he may of punched the air. In relief of getting through the dance. Not as an excuse.

Well, everybody is entitled to their opinion I guess, but I found the comment about Camilla getting a black eye offensive in the extreme

But then again, I'm playing into the Thread-Starter's hands by commenting on it. Shame on me

Part of supporting an underdog is having to suffer the backlash if and when they stay in without perhaps deserving to. Looking at the latest polls from non-SCD sites, James is by far the last person people want to win (only 6%!) and by far the most unpopular (39%). There's gonna be some fallout from that.

It's not very nice to hear that people dislike your faves but people get emotionally involved in this show because it is so good, and they give an emotional response when they don't agree with something.

If you don't like it, the best thing to do is not respond to such topics and they'll quickly drop off the page.

Oh, and for the record, I don't agree with the original post but there is something about James' attitude when things aren't going well for him that I really don't like. He gets very sullen and unnecessarily defensive. I suppose he is a chef though - a lot of them are like that.

Absolutely ... the hate/jealousy threads are horrid to read as the majority of the posts on here have been lovely and fun to read but the venom which comes out 'occasionally' I find really sad. Have been reading on here for a while and love catching up but don't post much. I was saddened to see Anton and Patsy go as they were my favourites [especially Anton ] but at the end of the day I don't care whether the most competent dancer [probably Zoe or Colin]wins or if the winner is someone folk see who has had fun, loved the experience and developed a love for something they haven't really done before[ like Darren and James] - all have been very game and given great pleasure.
