How weird, I have suddenly got behind Colin.........
This is very odd, I have previously posted about how Colin's performances seemed a bit dull though skillful.....then I watched the programme last night and thought his American smooth was just brilliant. I love all the contestants with a passion (especially Darren), but it's as if a light bulb has gone on.....Colin just is the best dancer, by a mile, and I really feel he should win...
Very confused about what happened to suddenly grab my attention, was he doing something different last night? - can any of the dance experts help me out? |

Oh yes, did you enjoy the view? (Sorry, sorry, just couldn't resist the obvious joke.) |

GlenP the old ones are the best, hey?
I realise he had been the best dancer all along, but I am intrigued by how he went from dull to fascinating all of a sudden. Maybe it was the cheekier facial expression, or the erin chest move (seemed rather edgy for a family show I thought!!!) |

I'm totally with you vodachick. As I big fan of ballroom, I have always loved his ballroom dances (I think a lot of that had to do with Erin's great routines). I have never really been too impressed with his latin, but watching it back his rumba is the frst latin dance which made me think 'hey! he's not bad!'
I hope they win. |

Yep, me too. Previously I've always thought "that was very nice" without being excited or wanting to vote. But last night both his dances made me go wow!

Absolutely. Although a fan of Colin they didn't have a close connection. Last night they went from being the remotest couple to the sexiest.
WOW indeed. |

I completely agree too ! I love Darren and Lilia as they sum up the essence of the show for me, however I now think that Colin should win this. He was absolutely brilliant in both his dances, has real talent and looked pretty professional to me (although I'm no expert). Wow, I too hope that he wins this, he deserves it more than Zoe somehow. Have Colin and Erin ever been in the bottom 2 ?

Finally!! people are starting to see colin as just more than a dancer, i think the extra coverage he has had this week is starting to alter people's perception of him. we all know he wants to win but he is a bubbly fun character and i thought his kiss on erins neck was a sexy moment that no other couple has achieved so far this series it shows how close they are to each other. they even kissd on the lips last night did anyone else see that

yes I saw this too, it was sexy, but (please don't shoot me for saying this, I'm not having a dig) isn't Colin gay ? Is Erin attached ? Could something be sizzling here or am I barking up the wrong tree ?

I have had a soft spot for Colin throughout his athletic career and was over the moon when he signed up for SCD, and he was the initial reason I started watching this series (never having seen series 1 and 2, much to my disappointment now I realise what a great show I was missing out on).
I was even happier when he proved himself to be a great dancer, he was my favourite from the beginning, although once I started watching I also fell in love with Patsy and Anton. I have voted for him every week - along with Patsy and Anton. Now they have gone I am 100% behind Colin. |

I wasn't a big Colin or Erin fan. But last night showed how they have combined Colins talent +hard work+ passion+ exciting choreography resulting in PURE BRILLIANCE. I'm so glad they upped their game. It has really made SCD exciting for me this year

Suddenly Colin
I know EXACTLY what you mean. I've not had much interest in Colin to date, but suddenly, last night, I sat up and noticed. Not quite sure why. But if it has happened to me, and to others on this site, then maybe he could just win this. It would be fantastic.

Aha!! - just been and watched Colin again (thank the lord for sky+)......and realised that when i watch all the others, i am kind of nervously expecting them to make a mistake, whereas with Colin's american smooth, he was so obviously confident, that I could just enjoy the dancing. It was like watching a pro.

i think that colin's fan base has increased after last night because people have ffinally realised that not only is he a very good dancer he is a sexy guy and the sizzle between him and erin is coming to the boil at the right time. for colin's fans like me the connection was always there but for others they couldn't see it until that rumba last night and then that kiss on the neck after the american smooth was so raunchy! he's timed his moment to perfection another good dance next week and i think he'll win the final

He 'clicked' with me for the first time this week too. My theory is that when Matthew came and demonstrated the kind of stuff you could get away with during a dance in order to make it sexy ("You can touch her boobs!!??") Colin took it on board and really went for it.

I also quite liked him last night when I haven't before, his dances were my favourites! (Very closely followed by Darren & Lilia though!) Usually I find him technically good but he never grabs my attention, but last night I thought he was brilliant! I'm still not sure if I want him to win, but I do like him a lot more.

Very confused about what happened to suddenly grab my attention, was he doing something different last night? - can any of the dance experts help me out? Welcome aboard V'chick . Pleased to have you. As I've always maintained on many of the threads Colin was surely going to bring it on and let his dancing do the talking, which he did.

I pretty much agree with the consensus of this thread. From the start of the series, Colin was one of the celebrities that I looked forward to seeing the most. He certainly didn't disappoint. Previously, I was impressed with his technical ability - he simply possesses a natural rhythm, fantastic control over his limbs and an athletic discipline that has translated well to his dance training. Though purists may point out faults, in terms of observing Colin at a technical level, I appreciated his dances. However, I did feel that he and Erin lacked something and that he really needed to immerse himself more in the performance, much like Darren does - whose personality you can see more demonstrably in his dances.
Now, after having seen yesterday's performance, Colin has shifted gears. He must have known that it was the quarter final and that it was time to up his game. And he did. I think Erin did as well because this time she produced routines that I felt were much more memorable. Moreover, as many have commented here, they really connected in the dance. You no longer had two people striving together for for the same goal. That Rumba saw them forge a real partnership, based upon hard work, trust (Erin must trust him a lot for him to touch her so intimately in a dance like the Rumba) and innate ability. I've made it no secret that I would like a guy to win this year's series of SCD because whoever we would be an inspirational figure for men to take up dance. Darren would arguably be a fantastic ambassador for this role, but considering his superior dance ability, overall consistency, high workrate and kind personality I have to say that Colin currently has my vote. |

Saturday was the first time I've voted for Colin. Previously, I could see his performances were technically good but somehow they were lacking the extra something that would motivate me to vote. But his rumba... wow. It was absolutely amazing. I thought it deserved a 10.

I also have this weird feeling I never have before about Colin and Erin's dances on Saturday, my gut feeling was it was so fantastic but I also have this strange feeling. My second reaction was I must pick up the phone and vote for him.
I now beginning to understand what this feeling is, it's like your mate bought you a drink and you didn't even say thank you. It was kind of unbalanced feeling. Their dance on Saturday was too good that my gut feeling was I owe them a big one, they performed so well, the only way to express my appreciation is to vote. With the record number of votes on Saturday, I am sure I'm not the only one. I am glad to see other people here have the same experience. |
