does any body know what sort of scart lead is best.mine are fat and heavy and keep slipping out with the weight i have a sat box/and a hard drive/dvd recorder coneceted to the tv but nearly every night i have to push them back in as i have either lost picture or sound.

Well, depends how much of a technophile you are! But you can get SCART leads which stay in for about 5.99 i think in homebase. They have a special grip to them so they are less likely to fall out.

I dont know whos idea it was to have SCART leads point out slightly sideways..its a bit silly.

The fat and heavy ones tend to be the best, low-cost ones.

the old scart lead question. I'm sure the guys in the tech forums might be in a position to answer that question better. (mind you there will probably recommend one costing twice the amount as your TV/ DVD package put together)

Homebase sell one which has a clip like mechanism (don't know what they call it, but it works and gives a good picture ).

SCART leads them selves are not the best, there is no positive click into place with them.

thanks had a look at that website seem like a good idea but out of stock til christmas.im not very technical im afraid only just found out why my cd roms would not play on hi fi.stereo to old.lol

At www.cpc.co.uk you can buy scart leads for less than £3.00 and they are good quality plus you if you want you can have one end with rca plugs and s-video plug and a scart at the other end.

You really are ripped off in the shops on scarts.

They aren't expensive, mine cost around £40 each

Seriously you get what you pay for.

If you have an expensive 28"+ tv then get decent scart cables.

If you have a cheap 20" screen then these will probably do.

I use these and they work really well for my set.

The best thing to do though is goto a local hifi store and borrow various ones. Try them out and see which ones work best for you.

I think it is fair to say that £2.00 will give a much much poorer picture than a £20 scart lead.

I have never bought into the gurus advice about getiing £50+ scart leads. If there is any improvemnet then it is minimal.

Link to tests that show that a £20 scart works better than a cheap £2 one please.

Various magazines have done comparisions, they occasionally include ones from the pound shop. It's a matter of trust that they are giving unbiased opinions but there opinions reflect mine when it comes to cheap scart lead (although I usually disagree when it comes to the more expensive ones). Years ago a magazine did a blind test between mid range scart and high price scart and ... noone could see a difference.

with £2.00 scart leads I can see why.

That how I got my Sky digibox connected to my DVD-Recorder through the audio lead and a s-video lead. Sadly my 20" tv is over 10 years old and doesn't work with s-video. A LCD or Plasma is next on my wishlist.

That explains why you don't see any difference between a £2 lead and a £20 lead.

and if/when you get the LCD/Plasma then you will notice a big difference.

Personally I have money dripping out of my pockets and love to blow it on some gold plated connectors with double screens and absolute minimal crossover distortion. Scart, RCA, Digital Co-ax, Component the lot. I wouldn't let a sub £50 cable through the door!

Gold plated connectors only improve things if the sockets are gold too. With Gold on Silver you can end up with a worse signal than silver into silver.

I do agree with other posts though that skimping on connectors is minimising the quality of the overall package.

Scart cables are made up of 21 smaller cables. Signals can leak from one to another resulting in odd effects, such as colour bleeding and pulsing, and even a ghost image of another channel in the background of the picture of the screen. Scart cables with individual screens on each wire help prevent this. This type of scart design is more important than the colour of the plugs - like the other post said, regardless of the hype over "gold scarts", gold on silver is not the best mix. Gold on Gold is best, then silver on silver.

By the way, what do you do if the equipment on one end the cable has a silver scart sockeet, while the equipment at the other end as a gold connection? Can you buy a scart cable with a gold plug at one end and a silver one at the other?
