Help,,5.1----->3.2

Help Please,,,I have a sony gx300 dvd connected via scart and digital output to my phillips tv. Until yesterday when i played a dvd with 5.1 sound the tv would detect this and play in 5.1. Now it only wants to play in 3.2. Settings on the tv and dvd all seem correct and all cables are secure. I have the TV on the dolby pro logic setting which is the same i always had. Any ideas what may have happened ? Thanks

Is your TV one with built in Dolby digital decoder and speakers? You should have the TV set to DD 5.1 not Dolby ProLogic - this is a way of enhancing a 2 channel sound into pseudo surround.

If the TV really only supprt Dolby ProLogic and not true %.1 you will never get 5.1 from the Tv. If it does, then your problem may be that you are playing the 2 channel sound track from the DVD and not the 5.1 soundtrack which you should be using.

My Sony Amp always shows 5.1 soundtracks as 3/2.1

my philips shows 5.1 as 3/2.1 as well

Ok,thks for this,,maybe the tele has always shown 3/2 when playing 5.1 dvds then and i have got it in my head i saw 5.1

My suggestion is just to play the THX demo from the start of a DVD which has it and see if the cows moo from all 4 speakers - that'll prove it for sure!

great,,havnt played a thx movie for ages i get cows out of all speakers and 3/2 on the screen,,thaks
