Looking at the recent speculation it would seem that it is being guessed that Sky HDTV will launch around April 2006. With this in mind do you think this will delay the brroadcasting dates of some of the more popular american programs on sky, in particular 24 which I have understood is due for air in Jan but would most definetly be a great grand stand product for HDTV.

My money is on a launch in late January/February to time with the launch of 24 in HD, which is expected in February.

I can't wait!

Not at all, they would only do this if the HD channels were available to all customers from the outset. As it stands, how many people do you expect to actually take up HDTV at first? For a start, an expensive HD ready TV is required-I doubt there will be a mad rush of people paying £1500+ for one of those.
Let's face it, HDTV is in it's infancy and so only a very few "early adopters" will be watching at launch. SD transmissions (and schedules) won't be affected for a long time to come.

Over at AVforums it's been mentioned that BSG season2 will premiere on SKY1 HD and run one week ahead of a normal SKY1 screening.
The source has proven reliable before but you never know

Less than those rushing to get one for £300+ , which was quite a lot. I'm disappointed I missed out

There's no reason to suspect that they would only do that if everyone was watching. It seems more unlikely that they would delay things for HD viewers too much. The idea is that they'll simulcast Sky One I believe

Where did you see HD ready televisions available for £300+? Or did you think I was talking about the set top box?

No one posting in public forums anyway

We'll all find out sometime in the new year.

They probably seen them everywhere, there's quite a few cheap HD tv's around at the moment. The question is will everybody rush out and get the expensive extremely large sets or will they buy the cheaper smaller size HD tv's.

Dell's got a cheap HD tv out at the moment but they don't seem to have a HD ready badge, it might be that's just because their Dell!

All these people who think HD set's cost at least £1200 are probably thinking of plasma sets which the cheapest I can find is £1,209. You don't need a plasma set for HD and it has been suguested that LCD actually last longer.

Although these are probably more suitable for use as a second set in a bedroom due to their size.

There's loads here http://uk.shopping.com/xPP-flat_pane...ce_range_0_720

The problem is that, in order to truly appreciate the enhanced picture quality of HD transmissions, a large screen TV is required. The ones quoted in the last few posts are ones I might use as a computer monitor, not a main room TV!
As for Plasma v LCD, well LCD screens are getting bigger and they don't suffer from "screen burn" as much as Plasmas.
