I think Alex manages to get the balance just right in when to play and when to be serious.. and no one is disputing the fact that Jonny and Kate are generally fun [to some people] to be around, whose only crime is to have aspirations beyond their means of being the next Denise Van Outen and Alpachino .. the problem is that they are so desperate to achieve success that they now feel they have been given the “green light” to be more in your face than normal. Its this sad pathetic quality that is nailing the coffin door of their respective careers firmly shut..

I think the housemates get stuck into routines... Jonny and Kates is this. However! Tim and Alex's seems to be to run off and have a good whinge for about an hour everyday about how superior they are to everyone else. I know what I'd rather watch.

I don't think it's playacting at all to be honest - repeating a few lines from films, and doing silly voices - they're bored - it doesn't mean they're trying to get noticed and make careers for themselves.

Last year brian continued to say "Evil" and "demons" - and played up to the camera constantly, more so than any housemate this year - he won.

Kate may get some presenting gigs when she leaves, and maybe more considering her impressions are very accurate, but Jonny knows full well he's going no where after this.

OK, IMO up until the last couple of weeks Kate and Jonnys occasional bouts of stupidity were indeed slightly amusing, however, their 'playing' of late has become more and more childish, more and more frequent and more and more irritating. Last night they appeared to be tired and not enjoying the thought of skating again that evening...but hey! the Klakson sounds and they go into puppet mode with their stupid heads on !!. As for Alex.. he is interesting, adult and definately not interested in joining their puppet show.....good on you Alex

I would rather listen to people talking openly and honestly about things that matter to them than feeling I'd stumbled into a low grade talent show. Brian was one of those special people who was naturally entertaining ... noone in BB3 comes close.

Jonny and Kate playacting annoying ? Whoo boy yes.

Jonny has surely missed his calling in life ( can he not hear the warble of the 'Red Coat' ?). He thinks he's having a laugh, and he most probably is, however, his humour relies almost entirely on the 'small group' dynamic. Its hands on 'games', tasks and routines that reley on a small core group or people or a captive audience with which to 'bring in'. He is not 'funny' to the people watching on TV. He himself isn't funny ( like Brian was, or even Jade is) and he's not clever funny ( as Anna was )...he's the guy who entertains down the pub, but ask him to be funny without the aid of his trust y 'bumper book of jokes' and he's lost.

Kate I fail to find funny what so ever....honestly, can someone show me the humour ? She did passably good impressions of Davina and the other housemates in the puppet show. Fair enough...but other than that, she joins in Jonny's games and laughs at her own enjoyment of it, but she dosn't entertain ME as the viewer.

Now Jade on the other hand is funny, her personality, what she says and does are humourous...both intentionally and unintetionally. For example, " don't you bulge your veins out at me" ( to Jonny) made me laugh out loud.

Jonny and Kate are cabaret performers, even childrens party performers, they are NOT worth 70 big ones...and if either of them win then its a very sad state of affiars. Its already been said, but WHAT work could Jonny possibly do after BB ?

Presenting ? No, he dosn't have the flair or the talent. Acting ? Please God noooo ! Writing a colomun ? Doubt it. Likewise with Kate, although she has possibly more chance of a presenting job.

Jade ? Again, I don't see her having a serious career in the media, but FRICKIN NORA she has entertained me for better and worse thoughout BB3 and is an absolute hoot. What would this years BB have been without her ? Pants is the answer. A worthy winner I feel.

There is one reason why Johnny, Kate or Jade should not win BB3. To save the programme.

The whole thing has become downgraded into a tedious audition tape for a career in light entertainment.

Yeh we all like a laugh sometimes - when Kate was falling over drunk that was funny.... when Alex was talking to himself in the mirror I laughed...Sandy pissing in the bin..... These things I remember but the recent false staged antics of people desperate to get their foot on the TV career ladder is cringe making and not what I thought BB is (or should be) about.

There are other programmes for such antics. They are called stars in their eyes .... Pop idol etc etc. Get them off BB!

I believe one solution for the future would be to have a better age mix. The programme needs more 30 somethings with a bit more life experience. Not saying older is better it just creates greater balance and a more interesting show.

Never in the history of Big Brother has the chant of "wannabee" been echoed by so many. I am watching less and less of it because of the stomach churning antics of the worst double act to hit our screens.

Kate's and Jonny's performance, there is no other way to describe it, his been repetitive, tedious and irritating. They are under the impression that they have hit on a winning formula and the more they play up the more they will be loved.

Kate is constantly saying "Yesss!" in that awful manner and at at times becomes so manic that when explaining something she keeps repeating herself over and over again. Next she'll break into song, arms flailing everywhere followed by a couple of 'wayhay man's' to Jonny. This will be followed by a three minute interval in the show to discuss Alex and Tim and then the whole cycle will be repeated.

Jonny predictably drops in a couple of references to "me mam and me dad", joanne, his band, faeces, urine or toilet.

The travesty is it looks likely that one of these two are going to win. With Alex looking a doubtful winner now I hope Jade wins it. If she does the shock to 'Cannon & Ball' will probably be the one and only time we see them acting naturally.

I never understood this 'superior' argument! So they are discussing/criticising their views about the other HMs, and you conclude that they feel superior?! Does that mean when Jonny and Kare criticise the other HMs for not doing the right thing, does that mean also that Jonny and Kate feel they are superior? Likewise, when you and I and the others criticise the HMs, does that mean we are superior?

Since BB1 it has been the norm that those more 'memorable' or 'talented' hm's enter the media. Whether this was the original intention of housemates or producers I couldn't say. That one followed on from the other was much more of a natural progression in BB 1 & 2. I have no problem with HM's doing this if indeed thier talent is worthy of such a job ( such as Brian who is a fantastic presenter, and Craig who is genuinally amiable as a handy man). However, I have felt that this years BB has been more about 'getting famous' than having the 'BB experience'.

I do agree with you totally that age should be more diversley represented. I know this year we had Lynne, Jonny ( technically) and Sandy....but somehow the whole show this year has felt more immature than ever before. Last years BB had a much more 'sensible' and 'mature' feeling to it, with HM's like Elizabeth, Dean, Stuart, Penny and Josh who were older yes, but brought a serenity and comofrtableness to the house which complimented nicely the 'madness' of Brian, Helen and Naz.

Its like watching Pat Sharp's 'Fun House' this year.

I also feel that they should aim for diversity full stop next year. All the men except for Alex and Sandy ( and then Tim) have been, to coin a phrase...'lads'. Interested in getting drunk and getting laid, in either order and with not much else in between. The two remaining girls are both fairly similar in look and outlook. Last year's BB was fab, as totally different people foudn a way to get on famously, and it was great to watch.

Have just read Benson's post and totally agree that if ( and hopefully when) Jonny loses this will be when we will finally meet the real jonny. I get the distinct impression he'll go mad ! It also turns out Adele was right all along, and he is a 'professional BB contestent'. Kudos to Adele on that one.

I actually find Kate and Jade quite funny sometimes ('me airs gorn ginger!' 'it's not so bad,you look like Geri Haliwell!'.

Sometimes the playacting makes me laugh (the trolley race) but not often. Thier boredom levels this year have increased considerably and they all seem to lack the intellect to cope with it.

Also because their playacting feels divisive, I, as a viewer don't enjoy it so much. I like them all to get along- ahh

Playacting just isn't Tims 'thing' and Alex, I think, doesn't join in 'cos it would mean interacting with Jonny (esp when it starts with Alex and Kate. Alex and Jonny ,a case study in jealousy?!)

Jonny and Kate are currently lying on sunbeds having a discussion about Alex which is currently aimed at trying to put the public off Alex.

They are saying why doesn't Alex like us because we have done nothing to him. (except repeatedly trying to evict him) They are also saying he is just so immature and they hope he gets evicted this week as Tim would have much more fun with them.

I though HM's were not supposed to influence directly the way the public voted.

Kate has also said she really likes Jade now, funny both her and Jonny have done nothing but humiliate her in the last few weeks.

With this performance I think Jonny and Kate will be getting nominated for Oscars next year.

I believe they have embraced Jade into their little gang because she was a bit of a floating voter and it was vital for them to have her onside where the nominations were concerned. They think it has worked out perfectly for them and Jade is no threat, merely there to make the numbers up.

Kate and Jonny have developed an air of smugness about them as if they are invincible and all that crap about "why don't they like us, what have have we done to them?" reeks of arrogance.

well, I love it when they are playacting. I find Kate especially very funny, and would much rather have the playacting than them sitting around doing nothing all the time.
i dont find it irritating in the slightest, and much prefer it to Tim and Alex's whinings.

Benson - I totally agree. Kate and Jonny are really annoying me this morning but E4 and Channel4 will describe their bitching as gossiping or discussing. They really are psychological bullies whether they realise it or not. Alex isn't stupid he knows how false Jonny's friendly overtures are and suspects that Kate is the same now.

Oh come on. These are volunteers for Big Brother. Of course they are attention seekers. What kind of person did we expect the show to attract - wholesome naturals in pigtails whose only ambition after the show ends is a contract to herd goats on a Bavarian hillside? WE made this monster - and then whine that the contestants are publicity-hungry, attention seeking, artificial. If you don't like the product of a media culture, stop feeding it. It's known as the on/off button in our house.

Its incessant playacting .. they are not entertaining you for the sake of it but *auditioning* in an attempt to become millionaires .. You sound like one of the superficial viewers that cannot see under the surface. You might not like Alex, but at least he’s genuine with all of the human frailties that go with it.. I totally agree. It is one thing when your natural talent shines through and Brian was a worthy winner and deserves the ensuing career success. What worries me is that people now see BB as a vehicle to greater things. What is worse is that they think that emulating Brian (or trying too) is the way to win BB and get to the real rewards. Sadly I think this formula may work. :'(

My worry is that if either Jonny or Kate win then the BB formula will become stuck as a wannabe talent show. The type of people who apply will be D grade entertainers rather than "real people" who are simply interested in BB as an experience in itself. I try to let my opinions of different housemates be shaped by what their own HMs say. It is interesting that nearly all have confirmed that Johnny and Kate are playing to the cameras at times and yes it does become tedious to live with 24/7!.

Of course you have to be an exibitionist of sorts to want to go on BB. BB1 and 2 showed us that we can have fun and depth in equal measure.

Forget all the contestents in BB3 - Bring back Anna BB. She was one funny lady

Now Anna is to me, what every BB HM should be. Genuinally funny without having to force it down anyone's throat, a wip smart wit and intellect, down to earth, self depracting and an individual. Am still chuckling over "Bobby Feckin Davro?" three years on !

You are also totally right about the 'Stars In Their Eyes' phenomenon. If either Jonny or Kate win, thousands of similar 'jokers' will apply next year. It will be 24 hour a day cabaret. urgh.

I honestly believe that there IS no formula for winning. Its the public being entertained by an 'individual' that is the key. Craig and Brian are two totally different winners, and Anna and Helen ( second most popular) are about as differnt as two human beings could get ! Its all about having something that the audience not only enjoys watching, but wold like to experience for themselves. I would have enjoyed being in BB 1 particulary at the end, and would have enjoyed BB2 all the way though. Make the audience want to be there themselves, that is the key. Jonny would bore me after 2 minutes and I'd tell Kate to lay of the 'flirt-o-metre' for just a while.

I agree also that a certain amount of exhibitionist and attention seeking behaviour is to be expected if you willingly go on BB, however, as you pointed out, BB 1 and particulary 2 showed that this behaviour CAN be productive and that BB can be intellectually stimulating as well as a damn good laugh. There has been a shallowness about this years BB, what with Kate seeming to 'get off' with every eligable male in the house, Alex switching his affections as often as he scrubs the toilet, and no apparant real 'friendships'. Its all so damn unbelivable.

I think this years BB has been a disapointment in so many ways, but specifically for me it is highlighting that BB 1 & 2 were jsut damn lucky to find such good HM's, and that this years batch of wannabe's is going to set the precident from now on. I can just see a line of Jonny's at next years auditions.

I agree - but I think it's a natural death. When an original idea grows a history it can either evolve or become formulaic, and BB doesn't really have the potential to evolve - its basic concept is too simple (which was the beauty of it), and changing tasks/putting up bars etcs is not enough to create the additional complexity or novelty the show needs if it is to develop.

Relying on the HMs to povide the evolution can't work, either, because the longer the show runs, the more the contestants - and the audience - begin to respond knowingly to the show's genre and history, creating the impression of 'professional' HMs or actors. Personally, I don't see this as a fault in the HMs - just an inevitability. Brilliant ideas have their shelf lives - but there are other ideas out there waiting to take its place when BB closes its doors for the last time.
