hope this hasn't been done before

just came to mind as i was explaining my reasons to someone yesterday, and (as i mentioned some time ago) it's all down to bill turnbull. he was speaking at a charity ball i was at in london, and i hate to say it but i didn't even know who he was (i'm a lazy person, i never used to get up in time for breakfast you see ),. it was a week before SCD started, and he told us to watch it and to vote for him.

so i watched it, i got hooked, and now i'm even more so thanks to this forum and ITT

and so..my thanks to bill and ITT and all of you lot xxx

and you??

It was James Martin and Dennis Taylor for me, but I decided they were crap and it was Brendan and Anton that kept me hooked.

Ok it was only James I went off I still love Dennis

I saw a little bit of series 1 but none of the celebs attracted my attention enough to warrant watching it throughout and Natasha Kaplinksy - especially! - put me off because she kept saying that she didn't want to be in it (as if someone were twisting her arm up her back!!) when, really, she was loving every minute of the attention. I decided not bother watching series 2 until one evening I was channel hopping and came across Jill Halfpenny dancing the jive with Darren B. From that moment, I was HOOKED and have been ever since. I LOVE the show because it is excellent family entertainment and a fun competition! It is well put together (the format, music, costumes - everything!! Long may it reign!!

I had no idea the programme existed until I happened to flip channels one Saturday, part way through the first series and was intrigued to see what was clearly a professional dancer, with a good, but obvious amateur (Martin Offiah). I've been watching ever since.

I have watched SCD since the beginning. I just love that kind of show, I love the dancing, the costumes, hte excitement, the joy, the emotion, I love everything of it.

Oh, that's a good question. I really can't remember but i as a very young child I very occasionally watched bits of Come Dancing so have always had a soft spot for ballroom dancing.

I was, very casually, interested in the first series but only saw a few clips and that was just to see the car crash dancing of Chris Parker. Plus i worked Saturdays. I can't remeber why but I asked my sister to tape the second episode of the second series and I was absolutely hooked. Denise Lewis was amazing. I loved watching the second series and could not wait for this series to start. I would say I am completely obsessed with it when it's on.

I got into it as my mum rang up on the second week of the first series and asked me if I was going to watch it. I didn't even know what she was talking about but her and my dad were so enthusiatic about the week before I turned it on just so I could say I had seen it, but I wasn't really into ballroom dancing although my sister in law was a big ballroom dancer...so I did know a bit.

Anyway.

Big mistake.

I was totally hooked from the first second and had to go away on holiday the week after! Took me a long while to work out how to programme the video to tape days in advance I can tell you!

So from pretty much day one..the only show I missed was the very first one.

I have posted in a number of threads now and felt this one also prompts a comment. I danced in the 70s and then stopped the shows have reminded me what I was missing, so I have returned to dancing. I will miss the show when it ends but I still have a lot more dancing to do, I have to say at this point join a local school and if you are lucky like me then the social dances plus all the nice people added on also make the weeks an adventure. What step or dance is to be next and will the left foot cope? (less withdraw after the loss of the show) dont just watch get dancing.

The people I worked with last year kept raving about it so eventually I had to watch SCD 2 to see what it was all about.... plus I read an article in my local paper about a dance school that had had an upturn in pupils on the back of it.... days later I re-enrolled in dance classes myself as I remembered why I'd been hooked on it!!

I do have a history of dancing - ballet for 7 years and ballroom for 4 years, albeit over 10 years ago - though so it was (literally) like putting on an old pair of shoes for me!!

I agree wholeheartedly. Everyone should have a go at learning how to dance. Those who are wavering, thinking "I'm not sure if I should ..." - I strongly recommend that you have a go. It has added to my life immeasurably and it's one of the most sociable forms of exercise out there.

As for what got me into SCD. Of all the people it had to be, it was actually David Dickinson. He was added in to get the Student/Cult TV audience. I fell for it because he already had the infamous Ballroom tan and looked like amusingly akin to a 70s Latin lothario. He wasn't, of course, up to the standard of other dancers but once I saw Paul Killick dancing with Verona Joseph, my curiosity was piqued enough to keep watching. I didn't see all of Series One, but I did watch the final and greatly admired Christopher Parker and Hanna Karttunen. Chris, for all his lack of talent, had so much fun and Hanna crafted some great routines for him. I was so inspired by his antics that after the series finished airing, I started Ballroom lessons. Then my love affair with dance just grew and grew. When the BBC said they were already making a second series, I made sure I taped it from the start. Now I watch SCD religiously and am hopelessly hooked.

I really wish I'd seen the 1st two series..never knew what I was missing! I saw some of SDF because someone I worked with knew one of the guys in it, persuaded my bloke that we had to learn to dance while that was on, never got round to it, and now we are 100% going to get lessons as soon as I finish my dissertation, which'll be about the end of this series..got to have something to do after that The amount of people on here who know what they're talking about makes me feel like I HAVE to learn

I watched SDF too, but I only found a little thread on DS about it and posted in there each week. it didn't have the following that SCD has which is a shame as I found it equally as entertaining.

I started watching SCD because my best friend, who is a dancer, kept raving about it and i decided to see what all the fuss was about. Now I'm hooked. I have a lot to thank her for I guess.

I caught bits of the first series, but only really started watching the second. I am a Julian Clary "groupy" and have to watch anything he appears in. Once I started watching I was absolutely transfixed! Then I spotted Anton too - my favourite 2 men in one programme - how lucky can one girl get???!!!

I agree with Patsy's comments. There should be more of this sort of family programming on the TV, especially Saturday evening shows. Long live SCD and ITT!!

I used to watch the old Come Dancing, although when I heard they were reviving it with Celebrities I was worried. I needn't have been! So I've been captivated since series one.

Although I did watch series 1 and 2, it wasn't until I saw the US version of the show - which I thought was excellent and nicely controversial - that I became a real fan of SCD.

This is the first series I have watched - which I am so disapointed about now. I only got into it by accident as my plans on Saturday night fell through at the last minute and I was home alone and bored so thought I'd watch that dancing show with Colin Jackson in it - because I think Colin is great. After that I was hooked. I totally fell in love with the show, it's what Saturday Night entertainment should be.

As for the comments earlier in this thread about how everyone should learn to dance. My friend and I took up ballroom lessons about 15 years ago (to meet men I am ashamed to admit ) but we were the only ones in our late teens/early 20s and got scared away. I should imagine with shows like SCD and SDF that these days it'd be a different story, I bet lots more young people dance - sadly I am now not so young myself.

I think this forum should also be mentioned as another reason why I love SCD so much. I have met some lovely people on here and had so much fun it helps keep my enthusiasm at full throttle.

I've been a fan since Series One - my then boyfriend was crazy about Natasha, so we used to watch it together. I've always been keen on watching dancing, (I'm in a wheelchair so can't take it up unfortunately) used to love watching Come Dancing as a little girl, it was a fantasy world of beautiful dresses and wonderful dances.

Then in Series Two, I supported Roger and Aled, both lovely to watch, but thought Jill was fabulous right from the beginning, it was obvious that she had a very special talent and was going to run away with the title.

But Series Three has taken over my life, especially since I found this forum - just great entertainment, every night of the week (apart from Sundays boo hoo ) None of my friends are into this, so I'm loving the chance to 'talk' about it to my hearts content on this brilliant Forum - and with all the fantasy and frilly aspects its a wonderful way of cheering up cold and miserable winter evenings.

You and me posted the same time!

Thanks for that..I will look forward to it. I adored it last year and loved who won, though liked the second placed couple too.

They were both SO exciting to watch.
