Arise, Sir Bruce!
Easylistener
06-12-2005
Now that Terry Wogan has been knighted for 40 years service to broadcasting, should we not be launching a campaign to get our Bruce that illustrious title?

Bruce Forsyth has been entertaining us for over 60 years and whilst he was awarded the OBE ten years ago, surely he deserves a more prestigious award.

A man who at 78 is presenting live television programmes that attract 10 million people surely deserves it. And it would be good news for SCD too.

Who will back me?

Is he not a Sir already, That's a bit of a shock. I thought he would be the type of celeb that would have one already.

I think Wogan got his knighthood as one of HM Queen's own nominations. Apparently, she listens to his radio program every morning.

If Bruce was to be nominated; don't forget we're approaching the New Year's honours, it could indicate that she also watches SCD.

See, I always claimed it wasn't just entertainment, but could also be classed as high culture.

if you want to know about nominating people for honours it's all here! Presumably the Queen can choose her own tho - she won't need the 2 accompanying letters!

I can just picture the scene at Buck house, as she takes a pen in hand, selects the perfect stationary & proceeds to write:

Dear Me:

I'd like to nominate the lovely Bruce Forsythe for a decent gong, in the New Year's or Birthday Honours list. He's entertained me for so many years & has made a valuable contribution to my enjoyment of life.

I'm sure you'll agree with my sentiments, in this matter, & will find it in your heart to give myself & the nation what we, so obviously desire.

I remain my humble & obedient servant,

Me

Excellent Glen, but just one slight change if you don't mind:

True, to true. Forgetting the old etiquette there.

Oh he does deserve a 'Sir'.....people younger and less entertaining than him have them...so should he.

I love Bruce...but got so fed up trying to defend him on lots of threads I gave up and retreated into sanctuary instead!

So you are not alone...if I was as good as him at his age..I would be a very happy person.

It's about time he got it. I'm 55 and have grown up with Bruce. I've never heard him use foul language to get a laugh... he doesn't need to, he's too good a comic.

He's a national treasure, whatever people may think of him.

Well we could always march on Downing St I suppose... pink floaty dresses, tiaras, plackards etc. Brendon on a piece of string as mascot?

Memo to self: I really should try and get out more.

Sorry, just having one of those funny turns (I promise to go & take the pills immediately after I post this, honest), but it just struck me that, should Bruce be honoured with a nighthood, he could vary his traditional greeting to:

Knight to see you!

To see you knight!

Sorry again. It's been a long day.

Brucie seems to have got funnier the last few weeks!! i think its when he stopped telling lame jokes and just started being him self! i used to dread his jokes but now even im warming to him...a couple of times he has had me laughing

Funny - was only thinking about this today, after hearing that Terry W was getting his knighthood from the Queen.

I also thought Brucie had one, he's done an awful lot for Variety Club and so on over the years hasn't he. I can't believe he hasn't already got a knighthood for 'services to entertainment'

I find him a dinosaur and terribly homophobic. Not someone I would deem suitable for a gong!

Strange, never heard Bruce issue any statements/make any jokes that would lead me to class him as being homophobic.

Brucie has been apalling at some points in the series his "gags" are lame and tired and i wish he would stop showing us his "dance" moves it makes me cringe BUT i think that he has been a great entertainer over 50 years in the business he's still on prime time TV. The mind may be going but the heart is willing (he just needs to think before he opens his mouth a bit more)

me too, I suspect some of the Brucie Bashers have no idea what he is doing every Saturday night. The live show is an enormous job to even get near to holding together and frankly I suspect any of the likes Johnathon Ross, Jimmy Carr or even the allegedly super dooper Chris Evans would be left weeping in a corner at even trying to do half the job Bruce does.

Bruce Forsyth has been presenting live tv for 30 years if anyone could do a better job I would like to see them try and maybe then the Brucie Bashers will shut up.

I've never noticed any homophobic remarks from Brucie! He made a joke about queens a couple of weeks ago which was quite funny. Gay people like a good gay joke, we tell plenty of them ourselves!
