lush_645

I dont really know that much about the difference between these two. I want HDTV which i will use for watching normal programs and also DVD's. I'm also thinking about getting an Xbox 360 and i'll deff be getting the PS3. Which would be the best to go for? Plasma or LCD

Many thanks.

There are all sorts of variables but if you want a screen of 32 inches or smaller I would go LCD, if you want larger than that I would go plasma.

LCD's are cheaper, but plasma's look impressive. Not sure on this but I've heard that plasma's don't last as long, plasma's last 10 years while a LCD can last 15, but with the way technologys going your probably going to replace it before then!

There's also a urban myth going around that if you drop a plasma screen on it's front it will kill a plasma. Don't know where that one came from or what's the truth in it.

This topic seems to re-appear about every 2 days on this forum and others (AVF etc). Have a look through the threads and you'll see this being asked and lots of helpful replies....

If you don't believe me on the very next page:

thread with same name

SED is better....

Screen size will limit you options, it really just from 37-42 that you have the dilemna. Remember that plasma is much more prome to screen-burn, which can be an issue for games consoles (ie still seeing the speedometer from PGR3 whilst watching BBC 1 if you got too addicted!)

Yeah i noticed that afterwards. Sorry for this.

Thanks for all the replies. At the moment its looking like LCD for me cause around a 32" would suit me fine.

But less than 48" HD is not worth while.

Plasma has a short life.

Go for a projector

Why is less then 48" not worth while? 42", 37" and 32" are all good sized, its down to personal choice.

I think a projector has a shorter life than a Plasma, most new Plasmas have a 60,000 hr life span, at 10hrs a day its 16.4years.

Yeah, let's all get projectors so we have to close the curtains to watch anything during daylight!

Projectors! uuughhhh. Fine if you've got a mansion and a huge room to use one in, but most folk don't have rooms big enough and the daylight issue isn't going to go away anytime soon.

Far better, if you want a big picture, to get a large plasma or LCD and hang it on the wall.

I can just hear it, no that's not a supporting wall that's the tv !

For smaller houses you could always get both, a smaller tv for the day and a projector when you feel like turning your living room into a cinema. You could even sell popcorn !

I can see what he means. HD on my 42" plasma TV looks stunning up close, but when I sit 10 feet away from the screen, which is the normal viewing distance, it is not so easy to see the difference between SD & HD.

Regardless of screen size, if you can't see a difference between freeview/sky/cable and an HD video then you need a trip to an opticians!!
