I have just moved from Orange to O2.

I asked O2 if I could keep my old number. Yesterday they transferred my old number to my new SE z520i phone.

All very efficient. I know it's worked because people can now contact me.

But when I go in to Settings, Phone Status on my phone, the number is not my old one, but still the number that came with the new phone.

Anyone know why this is, and how to change it?

You will need to wait for a SIM update (if it works) or depending on your phone go into the settings and edit the number.

If you're receiving calls properly then chances are it's been done. Have you tried power cycling your phone?

The telephone number isn't part of the phone but part of the data the phone asks the network for when you switch it on.

As I understand it the number is on the SIM and isn't normally updated when you port a new number in. I ported a T-Mobile number to O2 about 4 years ago and its never been changed.

AFAIK for outgoing caller ID to work, your handset needs to know the number that's ported in - the only place this can come from is the network.

That said, I can't vouch for the handset as to how or why it thinks it has a certain number under the status screen.
