Not sure exactly what this means though while I was in Sweden during this year, their 3 network had almost 90% SonyEricsson handsets. Also Ericsson have control of 3's networks in Italy and Australia.

Maybe Ericsson will be able to make the service useable. 3's call reliability has and continues to be appalling (dropped calls, failed calls etc), that's why Hutchison have to give it away.

I'm sure Sony Errisson and Erricson are two independant companies.

They are. One is a joint venture between Sony & Ericsson (Handsets) and the other is a telecoms infrastructure specialist (Ericsson AB).

I seem to recall the swedes selling the consumer aspect of Ericsson to Sony due to thumping losses. The infrastructure part of the company was retained as the profitable part.

I used to deal with Ericsson and Nokia back in the day, particularly when one2one was in its early days Ericsson played a big part in the deployment of there network. Orange used to use Nokia quite a bit. I'm a bit out of touch with it all as I don't deal with this aspect of comms anymore.
