Comparison between Jonny and Brian from BB2
Jason C
17-07-2002
It's fair to say that for the many fans Jonny has, he also has plenty of detractors too, especially on this forum.

I think it's also fair to say that Brian had rather more fans and rather less detractors last year, or at least that's what I recall.

This contrast intrigues me, because it's certainly the case that both Jonny and Brian are/were entertainers, and additionally having fun and taking the BB experience not as seriously as others were their raison d'etre, and yet Jonny seems to be coming in for much more stick than Brian did.

So, for any Jonny haters who are reading this, did you also take a dislike to Brian last year, and if not, why not? Also, how similar or different do you think Jonny and Brian's personalities are?

Jonny and Brian are chalk and cheese. Two completely different people, so I think comparisons are impossible. Brian had a natural unforced WIT. Jonny is totally witless - he just has a toilet mentality.

I think most people can tell if someone is being genuine or not, dont forget Brian, had a few run -ins with people last year, still didn't stop him winning, as he was a natural comedian. Being able to make people laugh, while not even trying. Jonny tries very hard and only when he's been drinking. There's a huge difference. In fact, how can you even put them into the same sentence.

brian was a naturally funny person who didnt appear to particularly know this fact, jonny is a mildly funny guy whos obsessed with coming across to the public as a hilarious entertainer.

Brian

* young enough to get away with being a bit immature
* funny on various levels
* able to be on either end of the joke
* liked by everyone in the house from the outset and throughout
* possession of top secret ingredient called 'charm'

JoHnny

* immature (to the point of arrested development)
* funny a la Butlins
* hates not being the ringleader
* limited appeal due to one-dimensionality
* possession of all the charm of a slap with a wet fish

Fair enough, my memory of Brian's personality has perhaps depleted in time, but I did think he and Jonny were similar in the sole respect I mentioned, even if the other sides to themselves (including the way they go about being 'entertaining') are completely different.

PS Nice to catch you again, Mike; it's been a while.

It's more of a contrast than a comparison, wouldn't you say?

There is nothing special about Jonny.

Could anybody here honestly say that there is anything about the guy that makes him more than ordinary?

They are no where near alike. Brian was popular last year because he was inoffensive and hysterical. Jonny is a knob, thinks he is dead funny probably cos his friends and family have told him he is, when in fact he's no more funny than the average person, if that. And are we forgetting how miserable he was having been nonimated 3 weeks on the run?

Fair enough, but didn't Brian go a bit 'iffy' when Josh came into the house?

Let me extend this in a different direction (albeit a theoretical one), by asking how you think Jonny would've fared with last year's housemates, and Brian with this year's?

With Jonny, I think he would've been out very early on, as the likes of Narinder, Dean and Elizabeth probably would've gone off him from very early on, and perhaps the rest would've felt no more than indifferent; it's a moot point whether Brian would've won as we may have seen a different side to his personality if he had the demands of the divide and other stresses to cope with.

Firstly, I don't see Jonny as an entertainer at all. He certainly hasn't entertained me. I also think he has taken BB more seriously than all of the others put together.

BTW I am not a Jonny hater, I just don't find him amusing and his stereotypical persona has not won me over.

I thought Brain was fantastic.

They are poles apart IMO.
