yeah i read that as well i thought they found it more amusing than anything!

Well said. I wish there was also a member of the public on the panel as I think there should be on the X Factor. Then we'd get a more honest opinion - I think.

I can see where u r coming from, but I also agree that this is a forum and people are free to post their opinions! Unless it is a personal attack then I don't think it can be complained about!

If I was them I'd be scared over how people got so obsessed with it (man I am obsessed by SCD, and analyse it loads) but then thats the fun!!!

As soon as someone starts a personal attack on one of the celebs/pros I will be the first to jump in and defend them, and shoot down the person whom posted but at the minute it is just people with differing opinions!

Hello Glen,

if you look at the bottom left of each box, there is a button with alert written by it. Click on this and you will be able to e mail direct to the moderators who will take action thus saving you having to make posts like this.

In Glen's defence, having read his post and the posts he was refering too...he is not saying people cannot say that they do or do not like a celebrity or a dancer. That is part and parcel of a forum and so it should be.

He is referring to the more personal posts of which a few FM's have been party to, posts where both FM's and celebs and dancers are called stuff that is personal and not needed and also very nasty posts against celebs. I hate to bring this up but after the last few posts here, I have to in case people are getting the wrong end of the stick and didn't see this.

I think he is referring to posts such as one the other day that actually insinuated that one celebrity could and maybe would beat up his partner.

That is the sort of thing I do not think anyone should have to read, especially if totally unfounded.

Sticking my neck out here as am very worried at posting in threads such as these now, as I feel I should be quiet myself after recent events...but I have to say this, whether I regret it or not.

Also...may I direct everybody to Crystal Tips lovely ode to us all. I think that sums it all up.

ALL of us need to think before we post.

Bravo!! Glenp!! this is an open forum where opinions should rightly be heard and tolerated even if we dont agree. If someone writes a good post, applaud them. But, think before you post

Agree that some careful thought before posting is in order, but think that it's the job of the site managers and the moderators to point this out and police the posts

Well said Glen. I'd be extreamly upset if I found nasty comments about be made by people I've never met.

I hope I've not said anything like that about anyone. I may not have warmed to a few people but I would never slag them off.

It's also better for forums to regulate themselves. Once moderators & managers have to get involved you get a situation where people can be banned; in some cases very easily, & nobody wants that.

Freedom to express one's opinion is fine; I won't trot out the old line from Voltaire, but the onus is upon all of us to exercise that freedom in a responsible way.

The exchange of baseless insults, however, isn't expressing an opinion, it's the sort of thing kindergarden kids do when they can't think of anything better to say. (It's like Michael Palin paying for a 5 minute argument, during which John Cleese does nothing but contradict/gainsay everythig Palin says, in the old Python sketch, not an argument at all.)

You may not agree with everything I have to say in the forums & vice versa, but I will listen to your opinion without resorting to insults or sniping, a favour I should hope you would do me in return. We should also have the good manners to accord the pros & celebs the same courtesy; they might read the threads, but there is no indication that any of them has actually posted in reply, as yet.

I think this has got way toooo serious and out of hand. It is the minority who have maybe said something a little out of order and this has been pointed out and discussed so much in the past few days. Everybody gets the point, that is enough now, we need to lighten up!

Exactly - I think you should call a halt to this thread now GlenP

Maybe, but the atmosphere of any site is very much affected by the members who post, how they post and what they post.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me for ANY member of the site to suggest to everyone else something that may improve the atmosphere of the site for all. Of course everyone else is perfectly entitled to disagree with that suggestion, but that certainly doesn't mean the opinion or suggestion can't be made.

And to whoever suggested that a month's membership means a poster is less entitled to make suggestions....ALL normal members are equal and have the same rights, "length of service" is irrelevant!

p.s. just for the record, I agree that many posters online use extreme language when they don't mean anything by it, to be "scared" of anything posted online seems odd, however, posters DO often forget that celebrities are real people, with real feelings which can be hurt - might be worth stopping to consider that before posting.

Shelley and Ivor

perhaps it might be an idea to go back over the last 10 days thread and then you may understand where Glenp's opening thread is coming from.
One person on this board even had awful PM's sent to her because of her wanting to wish a partucular dancer good luck in the semi's although she was not supporting them. She wished all the contestants good luck, by the way.

Woah people! Everyone's saying how this board has become, how shall I say?... Less friendly recently, as there as so many arguements (well, ok, maybe not arguements, but... debates) about their favourite couple. As Bohochick mentioned, Crystal Tips has posted a poem, read that first.

We are all entitled to our opinions, and mine is that Glen is right. And so is Crystal Tips, and everyone who's noticed dispute. There's been a lot shown in this post, Glen was only offering advice. Why tell him to lighten up? It's just advice, you don't have to take it. And he doesn't want anyone banned, as he's said.

OI'll shut up now, before I dig myself an even deeper hole

I wasn't directing my thoughts at anyone in particular which is why I said we need to lighten up!

I just feel that we need to move on..

Everyone is entitled to an opinion

No need for any personal attacks on fm's

Colin to win yay!

Quite agree. This forum is a positive oasis of calm compared to the BB2 and 3 boards. Take a trip through the BB archives to see what I mean!

No surprise that some pros and celebs are reading the forum.

Some of the male pros are probably reading as the constant drooling over them must do their ego no end of good. Although some character assasination has taken place to re-dress the balance
In contrast can't think of much awful stuff said about the pro women.

Do feel sorry about some of the not so nice stuff said about the celebs, who basically have given up their time in the name of charity and have all done wonderfully well.

I do want the best dancer to win and think that right now that is Colin, but let's see how they do on Saturday.

I would have thought any dancers reading the 'pro-fanaticism' as it is so nicely put, (and I assume I am included in that due to my posts re:Anton) would realise it is all tongue in cheek and take it as such...I certainly would. And also I would be flattered.

If they seriously think I fall flat on my face everytime I see a bit of chest hair or have a tent outside their houses...well then they are not taking comments in the spirit with which they are intended.

And going back to the original context of this thread...

Surely it is better than reading that you are a '****** so and so'.

Oh and also having read the post this thread was alluding to..I think they actually were saying thanks to their supporters first...then saying it was scarey out there due to other peepsn who don't support them. I have read it a few times now.

Oh well, at least I can add fanatic to the list of names I and others have been given on here lately now!

Whilst i am in no way condoning the use unpleasant or derogatory comments about pros/celebs they have to accept that if you put yourself forward as a participant in a reality TV show which relies (in part) on public perceptions & votes you are going to find yourself on the receiving end of some pretty grim comments, whether they are critical or sexually obsessive. Reality TV has been with us long enough now for both the audience and the particiapnts to recognise that it has an ugly side ~ if you are really too delicate to take the backlash do not enter a reality TV show. Your projected persona is largely out of your control, you are at the whims of the tv editors, media hype and (in some cases) extreme personal opinion and judgement. I for one would never ever appear on any sort of reality show for that very reason.

As I said, I am not condoning extreme comments, I am saying that partaking in a reality TV show is akin to selling your soul to the devil. Anyone who knowingly goes into a reality TV set up these days must know this, from observing the past exeriences of others. If you don't want to be commented on & judged by the public (a percentage of whom are neither intelligent nor pleasant) then do not put yourself up for a public voting show. The perceived pay-off for the backlash is (hopefully) a career boost. No such thing as bad publicity, after all....

And I have to agree with the comment about some of the very, err, "appreciative" comments more worrying! I'd be interested to see how long it took before the proverbial hit the fan if some of the male posters started comparing the breasts/bums/legs of the female participants in quite the same way. There'd be a riot!
