I Love dogs, so this is not a hate the dog thread, but really!

That was of course the whole reason why he was there (the dog, not James). They are very close to leaving the competition, so what better way to get the publics heart & unfortunately votes (we are a nation of dog lovers....aren't we?) than to bring on a big cuddly thing like that (no not Camilla, though she is very cuddly )

You see politians doing it all the time. As soon as its election time, they run around cuddling babies (urgh) or stroking dogs, hoping that the nation want a male nanny or dog walker as its leader.

SCD Strictly Cuddly Dogs!!!

I actually thought it was quite thoughtless making the poor thing suffer the heat of the studio just to squeeze more votes from the public. It looked like poor Camilla was worried about being drooled all over (by the dog, she couldn't see me ) and now every time people sit on that sofa, they are going to be smothered in Blond Hair (the dogs...not Camilla's).

Vote for the Dancing....NOT the Dog!!!

Fudge is cute, not that I would ever choose a soft jowled dog myself. I was wondering, could Fudge possibly be another ploy by James and Camilla to win votes?

Camilla tried hard but it was obvious she was not comfortable around Fudge and he didn't appear to know her well; a dog or dog lover can always tell.

Julian Clary's dog, Valerie, is much more cute. She was a rescue dog and very timid at first, all credit to Julian for giving her a home.

OK I'm going to be killed for this!!!!!! That dog .....
a) It had creepy eyes and if I was Camilla I'd have banned it from my rehersals
and b) I thought it was really pointless him bringing it on to the show. It was probably really scared with all the lights and being dragged back everytime it tried to move.
I love dogs but I thought it was really harsh of them to take it on there.

Do have to agree that although Fudge was chute, did look rather distressed and unhappy. Think the "bring my dog in it's good PR" rather backfired on this occasion. Maryjay

I feel it is important to create a balance when owing a dog. I dislike seeing dogs so well behaved/trained they are almost in fear of their owner; equally, a dog shouldn't cause havoc!

I too think it was cruel to bring Fudge into the studio, he seemed rather distressed.

Big dogs should have big personalities, little terriers can be all quiet and well behaved!!!

argh tell me about it. try having an 8 month collie cross springer spaniel. nightmare
i don't think it would be fair on any dog though to take them into a situation like that.

Nice one! I would be more inclined to vote for the dog rather than its owner.

not a dog lover myself...in fact i get very annoyed by all the dog mess on the pavements and most dog owners seem very arrogant and think they have a right to let their pet foul the environment...also i have to say that when i used to use supermarkets i used to get upset by the fact that we here in the rich world can have our food shops with two whole aisles dedicated to feeding our pets while there are millions starving to death all over the planet...it's just a bit sick if you ask me that so much effort and resources go into pampering pets when folk are starving......

and i thought it was a shameless ploy to get votes from foolish dog lovers

the Koreans have the right idea as far as dogs are concerened

I hope, Lamographer, you are just in a 'winding up' mood this afternoon and we are not to take your message seriously!

There may be irresponsible dog owners around, but there are a great many more responsible ones. I fall into the second category and always clean up after my dog; in fact when walking him, it is rare to see any dog mess on pavements.

There is certainly not two whole aisles of pet food, in the supermarket where I shop. How can pet owners be single handedly responsible for the greed and injustice in other parts of the world? What a ridiculous comment.

If you have never owned a dog, you could not possibly understand the companionship they bring.

Also; if, as you put it, they have the 'right idea in Korea where dogs are concerned', perhaps you'd like to share their record on freedom of speech and human rights as well.

i confess to a touch of the wind up in my post
i stand by most of what i said though...apart from the korean bit
basically dogs have their place in our society but i don't think it's as christmas presents and i think it should be a lot harder for someone to get a dog..the person should be licensed not the dog...even my mum when she owned an afghan hound admitted the irresponsibility of most dog owners....i used to have a blind friend who lived in london and he used to say that dog mess was one of the worst aspects of his life in london...think about it...he'd not realise he'd stood in it till he sat down at home by which time it was all over his carpets...and i assure you that where i live, which is in one of the busiest shopping city centres in europe...there are still people who allow their dogs to foul the middle of the busy pavements..and as a cyclist there's tons of the stuff on the pavements and kerbs..and the big supermarkets up here do tend to have two aisles dedicated to dog and cat food..surely it must make you feel a little bit uncomfortable?

I was referring to your comment regarding the 'two aisles of petfood.' The choice of foods pet owners in the UK have, does not make them responsible for there being scarce supplies of food for human beings in the third world.

never said it did...just that it made me feel uncomfortable..also as a lifelong vegetarian i've never understood why folk get so soppy over dogs but have no problem eating little lambs or calfs?

Through personal taste, I only eat chicken (breast) and fish.

I think it's the companionship of a dog that is the key to a humans affection for them. I would not like to see any animal treated cruelly, whether a pet, wild, or in farming. As I say I'm not a vegetarian, but neither am I a 'townie', and ignorant of farming methods.

because you can't domesticate little calfs and lambs quite like you can with a dog. a dog can feel nearly human at times whereas a farmyard animal just can't IMHO (i work on a on a farm)

I like dogs but I prefer cats so Fudge certainly won't be winning my vote! Although if anyone brings one of those 'tuxedo' cats (black with a white front and white paws) onto ITT then that's a different matter...

fair do's....it's just that living in the city i see tons of people treating their dogs badly and behaving badly...there are loads of youths(and plenty grown men) who seem to think their dogs are a weapon to use..my mum used to have an afghan hound and i'm well aware of the companionship they can provide. i was even upset when the afghan passed away...then again it was never one of those dogs that barks all the time or licks everyones hands...yuk
