Okay, to coin an expression but, is it me?

Colin gets to do a little dance for the BBC sports personality of the year, but Darren dosen't?

I thought that Colin was a retired athelete, and if I am not mistaken but doesn't Darren still bowl for Essex, oh and hang on a minute isn't he a England opening fast bowler in the one dayers and limited over cricket.

lets be honest, Sports personality of the year is on Sunday, me thinks the BBC does think Darren will not make it.

I think they chose an athelete because the dance is for a feature about the World Athletics Championships last summer, in Helsinki. Where it poured with rain all the time. Hence the choice of song.

Colin is also a sports presenter for the BBC now, so I guess they might also be getting him involved because of that. And as Fern says, because it is in a link about the athletics in Helskinki being a rain soaked event.

Yes i got that but did we not win the Ashes ?

I don't think we need fear for lack of Ashes Coverage! I bet almost the entire show will be Ashes & Freddie.

I'll bet they have got something else up their sleeve to celebrate the Ashes, after all it was the biggest sporting event of the year (that I can remember). Maybe Darren'll get involved in that rather than dancing.

I know that doesn't really answer your question though.

Colin is an athlete and darren is a bowler- are they not two different things?

Anways wasn't it funny how Erin helped choreograph it? If it was me i would have been to busy laughing at him dancing in a bunch of water. lol. I cannot wait to see it on the telly

It's all part of the "isn't Colin wonderful....?" propaganda.

Give me "The Dazzler" anyday.

But if the segment was on the World Athletic Championship, why would they use Darren, a cricketer?

...and as darren said ' Dancing is more acceptable in athletics'

I agree it is about atheltics but hang on surley the biggest event would have proved a better link with Darren and dancing. It could have done alot for cricket and dancing in this country.

I can't let you get away with that comment colin out of all the celebrities has had the least coverage on ITT throughout the competition and most of the coverage has portrayed him as being competitive and arrogant i would say only in the last 2 weeks have the bbc finally relented and started showing more of him, and since he kicked butt last saturday the public are starting to realise he is actually a nice guy that hasn't been getting a fair crack of the whip

So to make up for the supposed lack of coverage, (wales is only a couple of hours away by road/rail). Colin then does a dance in front of the viewing millions on not only a Saturday night but on the following Sunday night in finals week. Slightly overdoing the exposure now then..... no......

Why should he? As much as I like Darren, I'm sure the BBC will have PLENTY of time devoted to the Ashes win (hurrah!) but much less to athletics. I think it's great that the sport gets a bit of a showcase - it certainly needs it much more than most other sports!

And I'm sure Colin will do a great job.

And I'm sure for the cricket lovers, they would have plenty of things plan but just not Darren and his dancing. After all, and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but Darren didn't take part in the Test Series with Australia.

So what? Its the sports personality of the year he works for the BBC as a presenter he is an athlete dancing during the coverage of athletic world championships. bill canvassed for votes on a daily basis on breakfast TV whats the difference? Zoe dancing on the pier at brighton canvasing for votes James dancing with camilla at the cooking festival canvassing for votes, i didn't see anyone complaining then

Hang on, this is not about cavassing for votes, thats your thread, its about a thought that could have involved Darren and Colin both bringing the mostly male viewing sports fans to prove that anyone can dance. As a huge cricket fan I would have thought that the majority of my fellow fans are men (the oval i would have said 7/1 where men), where you have a better share of the audiance for athletics amongst male and females. - pink and fluffy threads

And you are not getting our point. I'm sure that the BBC has plenty of segment plan for the programme. Having used the dancing to illustrate the condition in Helsinki during the championship, they would choose something different for cricket and would more likely use a core member of the ashes series.

It appears stinkies Dad that you are more pro Cricket than Athletics I'm with fern3 on this one and Hasn't Colin been around longer than Darren in the public eye, there are some people who do not watch SCD could well not know who the hell Darren is if he started prancing around in the rain!

The implication that i get from this thread is that colin getting the extra coverage is somehow unfair to darren, i can't see how darren is a cricketer, colin is employed by the BBC as an employee of the BBC and an ex athlete and it is the BBC sports personality of the year it make perfect sense to let colin fill in we didn't exactly win alot of medals so the coverage won't be extensive, whereas with the cricket we don't need dazzler we have freddie and the boys to guide us through that glorious summer all over again i love my cricket

Colin is a BBC Athetics presenter hence the dancing link to the Helsinki downpour - simple as that. Were Darren a BBC presenter instead of a County Cricketer then he may well have been asked to do a dancing link. One way or another a significant chunk of the show will be all about the Ashes (way to go boys!).
