I honestly did not mean for this thread to go the way of a colin basher, I just love cricket and I am not backward in coming forward about the dancing either, just my thought of a better mix, no harm done ?

I'm sure if there'd been an all time classic routine, that everyone knows and loves, that happened to fit cricket, the Beeb would have been approaching Darren. It's just the way the cookie crumbles that "Singin' in the Rain" works with the athletics in Helsinki.

(Off the top of my head, I can only think of one other routine that's as well known as "Singin' in the Rain" and that's the Morecambe and Wise breakfast routine to "The Stripper". Not a lot you can do with that one on a programme like "Sports Personality of the Year".)

My only wish is that they'd had Laurie Halliday play the original "Singin in the Rain" music. OTherwise, the lad did well.

Yep!, But he does it all the time. He is not feminine as Colin, is another one.

Really?.....I must have missed that, but if true then I've really gone off him.

I wasn't my intention to put you off him, he has tried hard. But recently he has been making comments directed towards Colin as if dancing is easier for Colin. And up north they don't dance so it's a big step for him to start dancing.

I think they are both trying hard and Darren shouldn't be comparing himself with the other celebs if he is not doing as well, as if it is harder for him than anyone else.

I'm delighted Colin is doing this and I think it's a pity it's turned into a Colin v Darren contest. I can imagine it arose out of a production meeting discussing Sports Personallity of the Year and people coming up with ideas for the 'infill' bits, the bits of fun. I should think LOTS of them would have come up with idea (or immediately supported the idea) of Colin dancing. He's good. He can carry a solo dance. He's popular, he's part of the BBC presentation team (he and Michael Jackson discussing athletics .....it is brilliant!!).

Why can't we all just say 'great news. Colin will be wonderful'. I personally look forward to seeing it (and I'll record it so I can see it over and over!)

This will all add to the likelihood of the NEXT SCD being brilliant too because, as with IACGMOOH this time, these two celebrity shows are suddenly going from strength to strenth!!

Agree - the guy shooting the video said quite clearly that they'd decided to get Colin dancing beacuse "He's one of their own presenters..." and its on a bit about the Helsinki championships where he was presenting AND he's an ex world athletics champ too.

Given all that - why would they use Darren who's a cricketer and wasn't anything to do with Helsinki???
