Hi everybody,
i am currently with telewest as my telephone provider , but i intend to return to Bt, to take advantage of the CPS services & free caller display.

Is it best to approach BT direct, and give them your telephone number & ask them to contact telewest on your behalf, or is it the best case of approaching you own provider at present & informing them of your intentions.

With regards to the above option,
how long does it usually take to swap providers

thanks
Tom

I would contact both to be on the safe side - you don't want to be receiving bills from both providers.

Wrt how long it takes, I think that will depend more on how much notice you need to give NTL to quit, rather than BT reconnecting you.

If you contact Telewest to tell them what you plan to do, then they will more than likely offer you free line rental for 12 months.

If you are 100% sure you are not interested in any offers, then it's a case of calling BT and letting them do the work.

Just remember, that'll you still need to make 'some' calls with BT in order to qualify for your free Caller Display.

Phone BT on 0800 800 880 choose option 2. That gets you through to the customer options team who deal with imports.

Have your Telewest account number handy so they can arrange the number port.

Thanks guys,
by any chance, does any of you know any contact email address for Telewest, so i can let them know my intentions, as i have looked the pages on their site, but cannot come across anything. I know i can ring 150, but i would rather also have it in writing/email.

cheers

No, just very wise. Doesn't mean they will put calls through BT.

With a BT line, you can get free caller display, put calls through a CPS at evenings and weekends and get free calls to 01 and 02 numbers for no monthly charge, and then during daytimes use 1899 for 3p/call calls.

You would be mad not using BT for your line. Unless you plan on dumping the landline altogether and going VoIP.

My whole point about BT is that they increased their line rental to bring in cheaper (or should I say less expensive) call charges, and then people go off and use other call carriers like 18185 or 18866 because of BT's call charges. I only wish I had the opportunity to dump BT altogether, but living in the wilds of Worcestershire, I don't have the opportunity.
