Has anyone managed to replace their i pod battery?......

I'm asking this question because I tried to get a battery replacement on the apple website.
Talk about making a meal of it. After filling in a few forms I fell at the last hurdle due to some problem with my debit card. I don't understand why they've made such a meal of what should be a straight forward process
. I just want to get my i pod battery replaced and fitted, shouldn't be that difficult.....

I can't offer any advice (sorry) but out of interest how long have you had the ipod for?

18 months, that's about normal for an ipod battery to last....

is your ipod still covered by your guarentee, not sure how long they last? because you should just be able to send it back free of charge. Then they fix it send it back within a week.

Can't you buy the batteries in the shops & fit it yourself? It would be much quicker, I would have thought, or can you only get them online? Sounds a hassle if that's the case. I don't have an ipod myself, so would be handy to know.

Changing an iPod battery isn't a trivial thing. The tools are quite difficult to use - the problem is that it's hard to judge the pressure required to pry the plastic front from the metal back.

It's easy to damage the dock connector and then there's the small matter of prising the old battery out without breaking the circuit board. You might need to use a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive! You'll also need a special torx wrench to loosen the circuit board.

I was lucky, everything went like clockwork after I broke the plastic tool and used a very sharp knife to open the case. The battery came out at the first attempt. The internet forums are littered with people who were not so fortunate.

Next time I think I'll use a battery replacement service.

in case it's of any use to anyone I found a firm to replace and fit a new battery. They're called "The ipod doctor". The service cost £49.99 and the ipod was returned after 24 hours.
Now that's better than buying a new ipod!.. .. ..

What about with nanos? I'm considering buying one. How long do the batteries last for and how much are replacements?

how much are they? I'd advise looking at the sony walkman mp3 player. I've seen the 20gb model which you can buy for about £180 and it's very impressive......
