Another thing... when I deleted them I think I pressed MENU when the recording was still running (i.e the credits had started to roll) and then deleted the recording rather than pressing STOP and then deleting it. |

I had probably deleted a recording and added/edited some schedules, but I wouldn't say I'd been doing more tidying-up than usual.

In my experience as a developer it is quite possible for a bug in software to sow the seeds of disaster which might not get noticed until later - perhaps even after a software upgrade. For example, if the old software left an invalid pointer in some header block (I am writing this in total ignorance of how the file list directory actually works) it might not cause any problems until some time later, perhaps when that file was deleted. After a software upgrade, if you've got nothing you want to keep, a reformat would eliminate any possibility of "legacy problems". I installed the new software before using my Humax for the first time so if I get the problem then that will blow my theory out of the water. Be assured, it it happens this forum will be the first to know |

When it happened to me I was on the old software ... I've still not upgraded, however i'm pretty convinced it's something to do with deleting while recording then going into standby (whilst recording is continuing) as a precortion I've not been deleting anythiung whilst recording and so far I've not lost a recording.

I am still using the old software. The day the hummy deleted all recordings itself-last weekend-recordings made that day had been deleted by me. The unit still says it is 70% full. I did not re-format. Since then it has again functioned well and the new recordings seem to be overwriting the old space as it is still 70% full. There has not been enough time to record enough new programmes to go over this 70% but I expect this will occur over the next few weeks.

Cheers Quexex Sorry to disappoint you but I had not been deleting while recording. I had used it normally the day before, then set it to record some stuff while we were out. When we got back the new progs were there from that evening but everything else had gone. |

I'm having the 'lost programme' problem too. For the second time all recordings on the list lost - this time with my recorded christmas vids. Not pleased one bit.
Software I'm using: hardware version: PVR9200T REV 1.0 software version: PGXTF 1.00.01 loader version: A4.07 The only different function I think I used was the immediate record button (red square). After that, all my chrimbo vids had gone. As will everybody else my HDD shows used space (34gB in my case) Same story with helpline - never heard of the problem before - reformat HDD etc - now it's happened again. I do have a email from the helpline as follows: (from Robert@humax.co.uk) - This is a software issue with the epg guide and it will be looked into in the next few weeks, by our software team. Thank you for your email. This was o 12/12/05. What are the chances it WILL be fixed? I've sent another mail to them today asking for a fix date. If it's not done by the end of Jan '06 I'll get my money back. What is the point of a recorder if you can't watch the recorded vids? Humax don't seem to have link in their brains to appreciate this. Grrrrrrrr. |

Lost all my recordings last night! Like others all Christmas recordings were on there plus several others recorded over the last 7 - 8 weeks. I'm not the most popular bloke in the house at the moment. Words like 'video', 'never happened' and 'what a load of rubbish' suddenly became the norm!!
The box is timed to go into standby at 1.00a.m. and when checked last night the recordings were all there. At start up this morning they'd all gone so something happened between the two events. I've spoken to Humax support who are well aware of the problem but say it's a relatively small number of reported cases so far. They suspect a software problem and the recordings may well still be on the hard drive. They don't know if they can produce software to recover them or just prevent it from happening again. Personally, the latter would make me happy. They are unable to replicate the problem so far, so can't come up with a solution yet. Not much point in changing the box because if it is software related the same thing could happen. Using software version 1.00.01 |

I lost all my Christmas recordings on Monday. I did a format drive and default settings. Thought all was ok but yesterday started to get some intermittent hard drive error messages.
H/W: Rev 1.0 S/W: 1.00.00 Loader: a4.07 I'm going to leave it for a bit but if I see these error messages again it's going back. Does anybody have experience of returning kit to Hughes Direct? |

The Humax has suffered from the loss all of my previously saved recordings over night.
The recordings did not appear in the recorded programs list where they use to be. Recordings that were made last night/subsequently are listed OK. The HDD info shows that the lost programs are were still using the disk space 70gb even though not listed. Going to stand-by or powering the machine down did not recover the lost memory to the hard drive. I had to Format the drive to recover all the disk space. Before the program loss, Errors started to appear, with a difference in the reported and actual length of the completed recordings, possibly instigated by, viewing, adjusting or deleting a live recordings. Software version PGXTF 1.00.00 I will post this info to Humax and let you know of any feedback. |

Also lost all recordings Tuesday Night/ Wednesday morning, (Approx 70% full at time) - not aware of doing anything different - usual record and delete pattern
All recordings (both Video and Audio) lost but Mp3's were still there until format done. Software version PGXTF 1.00.00 (was quite happy with this version - only two lock-ups in 2 months) |

Lost Recordings
Lastest on my problems as listed above. I bought my Humax from Martin Dawes on the internet. I explained the problem to 3 different people before being cut off! The 4th siad shee had a Humax herself and I thought GREAT she'll understand. She didn't even know you could see how much space was used on the HDD. Anyway she said sh'e look into it and phone me back. Well, she did, and her words were' there are no recorded(!!!!!) problems with this machine.' She stried to insist that an engineer called - what's the use of that? a waste of time that's what. I did conceed in the end to have a replacement machine, which I must add that the company have been very quick to deliver. But, I'm not confident that the problem is solved - beacuse as another contributor has said - same old software will be supplied. Oh yes, the Humax helpdesk tell me to look each day on theor website to seef there is a download fix available. For goodness sake they can't even say when there going to be a fix available. If this machine has the same problem and MartinDawes.com won;t give me my money back then it's over to VISA as I'll claim the product is not fit for purpose. GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!

For info - not commenting on the specifics of your case but under the Sale of Goods Act for articles less than 6 months old it's up to the retailer (nb not the manufacturer) to prove that the fault wasn't present at the time of purchase.
See: http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/fa...legoodsact.htm "If goods do not conform to contract at the time of sale, purchasers can request their money back "within a reasonable time". (This is not defined and will depend on circumstances)..." |

update post 68.
Had two communications from Humax: email implied that they could not simulate problem, but were looking into it. Telephone call from Humax said “that there would be an OTA update at the end of this month January 2006 and that it would include a fix”.

Even if they can't replicate the problem, it's still possible they can do something to prevent it. For example, they could add some sort of file-system check to run every time you put the box into standby. They could also store duplicate copies of the file table, so that if the main table gets trashed they can repair it using a backup copy.

Thanks Martin-w
Cheers mate, If I need to take this further I now have a reference point to study and quote. I'm willing to wait for a fix, as long as it's this month (Jan-06). I will then consider that reasonable and if it's not fixed I feel I've done my bit. Thanks again. Dai.
