Yes & you are fully entitled to do so; if we all agreed all the time life would be not only boring, but we'd still be living in caves & eating raw meat.

The point I was making is that some of us are actually standing up for you being able to express your opinion on this thread, without being subject to personal abuse for doing so. Just don't assume that everyone is having a go.

Even I understood that by inflamatory, Happyfeet appears to have meant that your post would, by the fact that it went against the flow of opnion, stir up a hornets nest against you, which, to be honest, it did. She at no point attempted to claim that you had no right to post an opinion that was contrary to those expressed by the majority of FP's on the thread. However, you misunderstood her intention & went into a defensive mode; it may be understandable when you seem to be under attack from all sides.

Spotster, please take advice from your fellow posters, remeber pink and fluffy, I don't post to cause offence just to get stuff off my chest. I respect your view and those around me. I like it here as everyone is really nice all the time. I have been on threads where if you say something they view as out of order they would tear you apart. I like this pink and happy place.

Strange how the people upset by any personal remarks made against Spotster are the very ones - including herself - who believe its 'funny' when Arlene humiliates James and Camilla.

However I do apologise for any upset caused.

Lets hope Arlene does the same.

Sorry, but I never stated that I found Arlene's remarks funny, or even mildly amusing; my posts concerning her, in other threads make it quite clear that I hold her opinions in utter contempt.

I just can't be bothered with shouting the odds at her any longer, she's far too self-satisfied & opinionated to care what any of us think.

If she was responding to what Erin said about overmarking, I think it's a bit low to make personal remarks in response.

And as for no-one liking James...get a reality check woman. I hope he gets to the final just to spite her.

Get rid of her BBC, she's just a bitchy old harpy.”

Hear, hear!! I think she's a bitter and twisted old bag. She's obviously pre-judged it and has probably rehearsed her putdowns already. Brendan was absolutely right - the judges should mark according to merit on the night and not try to direct the public. The right result has come out in the last two series - credit us with a little intelligence.

That's the word I was looking for - self-satisfied..... and SMUG! Yuk.

OK...everybody is entitled to say what they'd like...Hell, even Arlene is too! She tells me to "Boo if I want to?" OK then, I'll name the time and place and do just that. And she'll "say her piece" anyway? I'm cool with that too. But I think she just opened Pandora's Box - because my fingers are moving just as fast as my brain figures out what I'd like to say. So guess what folks?!? (And Arlene too... )

It's MY turn to say my piece. Or in this case PIECES.

1.) It's one thing to think that one couple is weaker than another, and even to illustrate that point. Maybe James and Camilla ARE the weak link in the chain, I don't know. But who are YOU to belittle their effort?

2.) If you're going to say something dis-respectful to someone, AT LEAST have it in you to say it to their faces. There's a word in the dictionary for someone who goes behind people's backs like that. But to go as far as you did and disrespect them PUBLICLY? As my Mum has told me "If you haven't got anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all."

3.) "Open mouth....insert foot". For some people, being blasted like that shatters their self confidence. For others, it's like taking a lit match to a pool of gasoline. They only get angrier, stronger, more focused and even more determined than they were before. My prediction - I hope you knew what you were doing when you opened that can of worms. Because I think it's going to come back and bite you in the behind. Dad always did say that it was not a good thing to make an argument personal...

To James and Camilla - Don't get mad...in this instance, get even! Personally, I hope you make Arlene eat every one of those words on Saturday night. For breakfast, lunch, supper, tea time AND a snack before bed! And fans....when they do well, let's help them out with that "full course meal" !

To Arlene - One more thing. You were out of line, full stop end of story. Constructively critisize? Go ahead if it will make the people in question better. But blatant disrespect, and in the most PUBLIC of forums? You owe James and Camilla more than just a little respect...

You owe them BOTH a very public apology.

That's all I have to say.

Cheers!

Freedom of speech and all that! I thought the programme was a Hoot from begining to end - with plenty of christmas spirit If we think Arlene went too far, then I would blame the presenter, who if I may say so looked as if she enjoyed every minute of it, still we really musn't blame our Claudia! Poor Arlene if she was to read this thread she would take to her bed with Mr Walker and sulk for days.

My fantasy about Arlene is that she would love all the controversy and I think that is why she is such good entertainment value. C'mon, guys! Look at this thread. Had you all jumping up and down and posting and arguing and feeling passionate and no horses were killed in the process. Being nice ALL the time can be such a passion killer. Feeling that you have to be too careful about every word you say in case you offend or hurt someone is death to creativity and spontaneity. Thats why Arlene is such an asset to the show. Nobody could accuse her of being nice all the time!

Spotster you are a gem. Cool and clear under fire and good for you. Don't always agree with you but always enjoy your posts. Arlene is outrageous. She upsets people and acts at times like the wicked witch of the west. Possibly excellent casting. But she is absolutely perfect for the role that she plays on the panel which is to be caustic and opinionated and perhaps slightly dotty. Some people may hate it but it is part of the absurd magic of the show that keeps us all watching.

Doesn't Arlene do a good job.

Several threads, each several pages long, berating her for one remark. Many of the posts displaying misogyny and ageism. One poster even thinking she shouldn't be allowed out in public any more. House arrest.......for a remark on SCDITT......bit extreme, don't you think.

How about checking the scores she's given James and Camilla? Every week she has scored them higher than Craig, except for the jive. She actually gave them an 8 for their paso doble, when all the others gave them a 7. For the Viennese waltz she, Len and Bruno gave them an 8. Craig gave them a 5.

Arlene can add an ability to wind up DS posters to her many other career achievements.

As reluctant as I am to be perceived as a band-wagon jumper, I feel compelled to add my support to the sentiments expressed by Seymour, Crystal and Muggsy.

I'm not going to reiterate or try to improve upon the many excellent points they've made - the only problem I have with Arlene is that by speaking her mind, she seems to have inadvertantly regenerated interest in a couple whose progress in the competition I am indifferent to.

I also commend Spotster, not only for her courage in her original post, but for her refusal to rise to the bait of such abusive (dimwit) personal insults, and aggressively threatening instructions (Pull your neck in) .. try as I might, I simply can't find a great deal of 'fluffiness' in those remarks .. nor much encouragement for free debate either!

Very well said Eyes of fire. I'm watching/listening to Saturday Kitchen. (can I say that here) and James was just on via phone. He's very excited and up beat about tonight. But Anthony did bring up the comment of one of the judges last night. James says he has heard and hopes to prove the judge wrong (no names mentioned and totally done with class as he has. ) He says it all comes down to the public. So let's all vote tonight. I know my international operator is going to love me again. As last week I hit redial 20 times at international rates. My husband is not going to be amused when he gets this phone bill.

BUT who cares. GO JAMES AND CAMILLA!!!!!!!!!!!

The bottom line is what actually is SCD.

If it is a true dance 'competition' then all judging (and their comments) should be impartial, in which case Arlene was in the wrong.

If as I suspect it is a pantomime farce then Arlene is doing her job very well.

Finally, I reiterate if Spotster and her supporters find being called a dimwit insulting then they should not find Arlene - to quote spotster herself - 'hilarious' for what in effect was calling James a dimwit.

Hypocritical or what !!

So true Lupe. Can't make no sense of their arguments at all Anyway the proof will be well in the pudding tonight won't it. See who'll be laughing then

BTW. to 'Eyes on fire': great post you hit the nail right on the head with that micro-analyses of what happened on ITT last night!

JAMES & CAMILLA TO WIN!!!
EyesOFire50
10-12-2005
And to think that I heard ITT over the phone....or at least, that clip (man, my cousin's TV is LOUD ) Glad I could do my part to incite....passionate discussion maybe? Thank my Mum and Dad for it - they've always taught me to think a little before forming my opinion and more importantly, what words you use to express it.

As to the situation- try to think of it this way. If it were you in James and Camilla's shoes, would it be easier or harder for you to compete if you knew in advance that one of the people judging you has all but sacked your effort before you even set foot on a floor? Apparently, James is not like this, nor is Camilla. Bravo to them both. Remember me saying something about "a lit match to a pool of gasoline"? Sounds like someone threw it - and James Martin is now more motivated than I've ever heard him be. Motivation leads to intensity, which leads to passion, goes to emotion and (hopefully) ends up at the performance of a lifetime.

Much respect to James again for taking the high road. It takes a lot of dignity, restraint and real pride in yourself NOT to bite back, especially with being under all this stress to begin with. That's what a true competitor always does - takes that negative energy and channels it...straight into a pure, undeniable passion and the will to win. Hard to beat someone with that kind of inner fortitude.

Wow- the rumba is Camilla's bread and butter, is it? Then that's good...it means that she's got a lot of moves up her sleeve and (if I've heard correctly) really knows how to spice up the story the dance is supposed to tell. So in the end, all I have to say is....

It is the perfect moment to bring all that to bear. Because GOOD dancers perform under pressure...

While the GREAT dancers perform under pressure when it's needed most.

I have every reason to believe that with all this extra enthusiasm and motivation, you'll see them both at the top of tonight's heap. Best of luck to both Camilla and James - your fans know what you're capable of and believe you can do it.

(P.S. - I was wondering if someone here could do me a LITTLE favour.... Seeing as I cannot vote (which kinda stinks; I could at least vote on the US one with my e-mail), is there someone out there who would be so kind as to put down a vote (or 2, maybe 3?!?) for James and Camilla tonight on my behalf? Thank you very much... )

Cheers!

Well I for one will still be laughing regardless of who is out or who is in.I am pleased to say I am a well adjusted Adult.
I happen to enjoy SCD . It is just a tv programme after all , and its nice to know we are doing our bit for CIN. However! I do take exception to being called Hypocritical just because my views differ from the Fluffy perception of what happened last night.

At the start of the week I really hoped James and Camilla would be the ones to leave. I love both of them and they're great dancing together, but are the worst of the three.

But, at least the excite me. Zoe does nothing for me and never has, and up until last week Colin didn't either. So as long as Darren and Lilia are safe and through to the final, I honestly don't care who leaves.

From an American watching from outside the UK. Sure will do. As my hubby will probably kill me. I'm making the calls thru international lines.
Voting by email would be great but this is a fundraiser program for "Children in Need" so email votes wouldn't raise much for the true purpose of this program.

Here's the number for those outside the UK.....

I say apologise and tomorrow night is not soon enough.

AFAII the DS terms and conditions do not extend to the SCD judges. However, they do apply to everyone posting on DS, including item 2.1 "You must not post messages that are vulgar, crude, sexist, racist, homophobic or otherwise offensive. Always treat other Users with respect".

Is calling someone a dimwit not crude, offensive and disrespectful?
