Respect to DS:BB Reporters Re: drugs
Myfanwy

All respect to the way the DS:BB reporters have reported Alex's admission to have taken Ectasy. That you have not only reported it accurately but THEN have also condemned the use of illegal drugs, and given sources of information about this, for both people who are addicted, and those that may have friends/family who are involved in this, deserves my utmost respect.

I have seen it from the receiving end, what these things do to people, it is horrendous, worse than you could possibly imagine. Children (in all but the way they "act") ending up on life support after trying one tab Others who 'unfortunately' buy a bad batch, which ends in a bunch of them in hospital on critical care. I could describe more, but won't.

Thank you DS:BB for reporting it in the way you did, honestly, but highlighting the dangers. I would encourage anyone who has had personal issues raised by this to first contact the sites given by DS:BB . If you have no joy there, or require further advice I am happy to give advice regarding support groups etc.

In that case they should condone johnny's excessive smoking, smoking related diseases kill 100,000 people in the u.k every year compared to a handful of ecstacy related deaths.

I think you're wrong to say that DS has condemned drug use in their article.

All they did was put a couple of links at the bottom of the article to advise people where they can get accurate information on the effects of drugs. At no point did they say it was wrong to take drugs.

Without wishing to start a huge debate on drugs, I have to agree with Dazey on this one.

Hundreds of thousands of people take ecstasy every week. The number of people who die from it is minute compared to the number of users of the drug.

yes..isnt the number of 'E' deaths the same as from peanut allegies?.
imagine if a new drug where introduced now, that killed 100,000 people a year. It would be banned to the hilt.
but we have it,its called 'ciggarettes'.
and alcohol, 30,000 alcohol related deaths a year, 85% of all people, involved in acts of violence have marked levels of alcohol in their blood.
yet this product is widelt advertised on TV!.
I think aliens from another planet would really struggle to understand our drug laws.

I can see both sides to this arguement and you could probably thow in alcohol related deaths as well since the HM's Drink alot, but the big differencce between drugs, alcohol and cigarettes is that with the Drug you are more at risk of dying with just one tablet

One shot of whiskey or a beer or a fag is much less likely to kill you.

You've got more chance of winning the lottery than dying from Ecstacy.

You've got more chance of winning the British and American lotteries in the same week as dying from smoking one cigarette....

Well as stated previously you've got more chance of dying from a nut than a pill. So why aren't peanuts banned?

Hundreds of thousands of people are doing pills every week up and down clubs in Britain. You never get any trouble at this type of club it's the lager louts at the cheesy discos that keep the police busy at weekends.

I don't want to get in a debate about drugs, but all the bad press they get is very biased. I am not saying it doesn't ruin some people's lives, but ciggies and booze ruin a lot more.

but you have to put it into perspective....

Yes alcohol and Cigarettes kill more, probably cause more people are actually doing them, but....

The chances of dying from either taking one peanut, drinking one measure of alcohol, smoking one fag or taking one E, which do you think is more likely to kill someone?

Ironically, you are just as likely to die from eating / choking on one nut as you are from taking one E.

However, you cannot compare taking one E with smoking one cigarette or drinking one measure of alcohol.

If you were to smoke for twenty years, you would be far more likely to die from lung cancer than you would do by taking a couple of ecstasy pills every weekend for twenty years.

It's a fact that more people die from nut allergies than ecstacy. Do you realise how may people are doing them. Any ecstacy related death is pounced on by the press because the British public fear what they don't understand and the papers know the stories will sell. Any death from a nut allergy will get a small column well away from the front page. I am not condoning it or condemning it. In my eyes you make an informed choice, it's up to the individual.

Thank you. I will take the thread starter from Myfanwy for the compliment that it is.

As for the rest, I can only say follow the links, please.

There are plenty of ways in the modern world to slowly kill yourself or degrade your quality of life and destroy your personality, but adding another one to it, should never be taken flippantly.

I think what some posters are not realising is that although only a small number of people actually die from taking ecstacy a large number find they can have their mind seriously messed up from regular use - a point I'm pleased that Alex himself raised. From my own perspective I have a friend whose brother died from taking e and three friends who had to spend time in a psychiatric unit after taking it regularly most weekends.

Depends on whether you do the lottery or do E. I do the lottery and dont do E so I am pretty confident I have more chance of winning the lottery.

( wormy little impostor )

I cant believe that people are comparing using E to nut allergies!

dying from them maybe but try taking a look ata psychiatric ward and find out who has ben eating nuts and who has been taking drugs! the dangers from mind altering substances are profound, death is only one of them!

Can I remind everyone that nicotine is a drug as well, albeit a legal one. It kills as well.
